A new bit of information finally surfaced in the Alexandria “Ali” Lowitzer case. If you don’t know, Ali was just 16 in 2010 when she disappeared in Spring, Texas. Read on to find out more about the updates.

The CrimeCon Update

During the CrimeCon 2026 event, Marni Hughes from NewsNation chatted with Ali’s mom, Jo Ann Lowitzer. During their conversation, Jo Ann dropped a possibly important new revelation.

For sixteen years, everyone believed the last people to see Ali were the kids on her school bus. It appears now, that that wasn’t correct. And the information arrived quite by chance this year.

Finding Out New Information

Jo Ann explained how she found out. She said that she caught up with an old friend who used to cut her kids’ hair.

While they casually chatted, the friend suddenly mentioned something rather strange for Jo.

She mentioned something about her sister. Here is how the conversation about Alexandria “Ali” Lowitzer went:

She’s like, ‘Yeah, I can’t believe there’s nothing new, you know, other than you know, the kids that saw Ali on the bus and then you know, my sister Susie that saw Ali walking that day.

Jo Ann recalled how completely surprised she felt about that. That’s because it’s the first time another potential witness entered the missing persons case.

The Witness Seemed Very Positive

The friend’s sister, Susie, remembered the moment clearly. She saw Ali walking that warm afternoon. Susie thought it was strange. Why would a girl wear a hoodie on a hot day?

Jo Ann said she felt lost with the news. “What do I do with this information 16 years later?” she remembered asking.

She immediately texted Ali’s dad. He didn’t recall that witness being mentioned, either.

When he replied to Jo about the news, she recalled him saying “‘No.’ You know, and with some cuss words in there.” Jo Ann added, “He’s like, ‘Well, why is she just now coming forward?'”

Passing It On To Police

The family believed the witness actually did tell investigators back then. Still, Jo Ann needed to process everything.

So, she decided to email the detective at Harris County Homicide, and gave him a brief rundown.

Fortunately, the detective responded the same evening. He asked for both women’s phone numbers.

For Jo Ann, it seemed super important. After many years she felt that someone was “paying attention.”

Then the mom of Alexandria “Ali” Lowitzer explained that the detective called both witnesses the next day. One of them called Jo Ann back to confirm it. “She was walking,” Jo Ann said.

Close To Home

The sighting happened very close to home. Ali only needed to walk less than a quarter mile from the bus stop. Describing it, her mom said that she would make two turns out of the subdivision.

Then she walked up the road. She passed the hair salon and a daycare. After that, she turned to go to the Burger Barn. Apparently, Susie saw Ali right near the daycare.

Hope for A Deeper Look

Jo Ann hoped the information might restart the investigation.

From my perspective, it means a lot I’m hoping that that gives law enforcement a little extra push to maybe interview the people at the burger barn again, you know, or interview some more of her friends.

A Quick Reminder

Ali was 16 years old. She lived in Spring, Texas. On April 26, 2010, she walked to the Burger Barn to pick up her first paycheck. She got off her school bus around 2:30 PM.

Her cell phone activity stopped around 2:57 PM. Police initially dismissed her as a runaway, but her mom fought that claim.

A gas station camera existed, but law enforcement allegedly lost the footage.

Lots of Money and Hoping For A Call

Ali’s mom kept her daughter’s phone line active for twelve years. And according to Inside Edition, she spent nearly $9,000 on it before finally deactivating it in 2022.

So far, it hasn’t seemed that any investigations have gotten anywhere close to finding out what happened. And many true crime followers believe the case has been cold for a very long time.

Now that a new witness has spoken about seeing Ali, that naturally gives her mom renewed hope that some answers might finally arrive.

She also broke down because her daughter had begged her to let her walk. As the tears ran, she explained how much she regretted that fateful decision.

Viewers React

In the comments section, true crime viewers wondered what the new information about another witness might mean.

One of them speculated, probably with Ali’s age in mind: “Sounds like she was meeting someone that she didn’t want anyone to know about.”

Here are a few more responses from the discussion:

  • I’m no detective but do follow a lot of crime. Just the fact she begged to walk which was not typical I’d say sends my radar up. Teens are hard. They are more vulnerable than they know.
  • If the police didn’t have this information, and the family doesn’t remember it, that is strange.
  • We need justice for this young lady.
