And apparently, it’s not his first brush with the law. In 2017, he was convicted for an incident involving assault and a knife.

Recapping What Happened

On Sunday, May 31, just before 4:00 p.m., gunfire broke out near Ross Avenue and Evans Street following a domestic dispute.

When officers arrived, the suspect opened fire on them. A shelter-in-place order was issued. The gunman barricaded himself inside a nearby home for four hours before surrendering.

Mayor’s Statement

Mayor Kathleen Walker wrote on Facebook that the tragedy “shakes our community to its core.”

She also talked about domestic violence, untreated trauma, and silence as underlying issues.

Plus, she mentioned that even small towns are not spared this sort of violence.
