5 Most Infamous Modern Day Serial Killers With The Highest Known Victim Count

5 Most Infamous Modern Day Serial Killers With The Highest Known Victim CountSerial killers are ambitious by definition. Albeit in a most gruesome way. This type of crime is as old as history itself, but here are the top five most infamous modern serial killers with the highest known victim count (to date).

1) Luis Alfredo Garavito Cubillos

South American Luis Cubillos aka The Beast was born in 1957 and died in 2023. His kill count was confirmed at 193, but there are many more victims he preyed on who survived the ordeal.

this unfortunate tally makes him the most prolific serial killers/child molesters in modern history.

He is suspected of murdering over 300 victims, most of them street children and for his crimes Cubillo was sentenced to 1,853 years in prison.

Cubillo’s early home life was allegedly full of neglect and he grew up watching his parents fight constantly.

2) Abbess Mariam Soulakiotis

Abbess Mariam Soulakiotis aka Marina Soulakiotou, Mariam of Keratea, and Mother Rasputin died in 1954. Greek prosecutors accused her of killing both laypeople and nuns in her abbey before her arrest in December 1950.

The Abbess was accused of killing wealthy women and children who wandered into her abbey, with the true count thought to be between debatable although she was convicted of 177 murders.

3) Pedro Alonso López

This monster was born in 1948 and is considered by experts to be one of the most prolific serial killers and rapists in history. Interestingly, he “disappeared” in 1999 after being tagged “The Monster of the Andes.”

From 1978 to 1980, Lopez murdered at least 110 people, mostly pre-teen girls but he claimed to have taken over 300 lives throughout South America.

In an eerie parallel, his father Midardo Reyes, a rancher, was murdered six months before López’s birth.

4) Javed Iqbal

Pakistani Javed Iqbal aka Kukri died in custody, an apparent suicide by hanging, after confessing to assaulting and murdering 100 boys, mostly runaways or orphans living on the streets of Lahore, allegedly aged six to sixteen years.

He was a meticulous killer, dissolving victims’ bodies in acid. He was arrested in December 1999 after sending a letter to a local newspaper.

When police and reporters showed up to his home, they found neatly labelled bags with victims’ names and ages, and two vats of acid with partially dissolved human remains. He died in custody, an alleged suicide by hanging.

5) Mikhail Viktorovich Popkov

Mikhail Viktorovich Popkov aka The Werewolf and The Angarsk Maniac is allegedly the single most prolific serial killer in Russian history.

He was a police officer and security guard convicted of 22 murders in 2015 and an additional 59 murders three years later.

His alleged victims were all female and brutally assaulted and murdered between 1992 and 2011 in Siberia, and Vladivostok.

He was dubbed “the Wednesday murderer” because the majority of his victims’ bodies were found, oddly enough, on Wednesdays.
