Meghan Markle’s Awkward Greeting With Pier Paolo Piccioli Captured On Camera

Meghan Markle made sure she was the topic of discussion when she graced Balenciaga’s Paris show in what became her Paris fashion show debut.

She first wowed in a white ensemble with a large cape, and returned in a black one, featuring a more modest cape.

There, she chatted with the likes of former Vogue editor Anna Wintour and met with Balenciaga’s new creative director, Pier Paolo Piccioli.

However, their meeting was not as smooth-sailing as any of the interested parties would have wanted for the cameras.

Meghan Markle and Pier Paolo Piccioli Butted Heads At the Balenciaga Paris Fashion Show

Meghan Markle made a surprise appearance at the Paris fashion show to support the work of newly appointed creative director, Pier Paolo Piccioli, whose work she reportedly admires.

After the show, Meghan Markle met up with Pier Paolo Piccioli and attempted to offer him a kiss on both cheeks. However, in between kisses, the two headbutted awkwardly, before finally finding their groove again.

It was the Italian designer’s first spring/summer 2026 womenswear, and the Duchess, 44, had reportedly gone to congratulate him on the beautiful designs.

Whilst her surprise stint this weekend marked her first time at a Paris Fashion Show, Meghan usually attended New York and Toronto fashion shows as an actress.

Following the appearance, a spokesperson for the Duchess said: “Meghan, Duchess of Sussex attended the Balenciaga show in Paris on Saturday night in support of Pierpaolo Piccioli, who recently assumed the role of creative director for the house.”

“This marks her first time back to the shows in over a decade,” the spokesperson noted, adding, “Over the years, the duchess has worn a number of designs by Pierpaolo. They have worked closely together collaborating on design for key moments on the world stage.”

The statement continued: “She has long admired his craftsmanship and modern elegance, and tonight was no different. This evening reflects the culmination of many years of artistry and friendship, reflected in her support for his new creative chapter at Balenciaga.”

For the occasion, Meghan chose a Valentino outfit, probably as a homage to the brand where Piccioli worked at for 25 years prior to his 2024 departure.
