King Charles Doesn't Have Any Direct Authority To Evict Prince Andrew: Here's Why

It’s common knowledge by now that King Charles wants Prince Andrew to vacate the very expensive, very plush and very comfortable mansion Royal Lodge standing on Windsor Grounds. It’s also common knowledge that Andrew won’t budge, despite being offered the rather less than tantalizing Frogmore Cottage.

King Charles’ main concern, according to insiders, is that Prince Andrew will not be able to afford the eye watering sum needed for its maintenance, which will lead the impressive estate to fall into disrepair.

But Andrew apparently has an iron-clad lease that’s not going to expire for another few decades, and King Charles has relatively no say on it. There is one thing he can do though.

King Charles Has No Direct Authority Over Prince Andrew’s Stay At Royal Lodge

Royal Lodge is where Prince Andrew currently lives with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson and the late Queen’s dogs.

Their two daughters visit occasionally with their husbands and children – Princess Beatrice now has three: two daughters and a step-son – and with thirty bedrooms and impressive grounds, it’s no doubt a great space for family bonding.

In contrast to Royal Lodge’s elegance and splendor, Frogmore Cottage is a much more modest abode with four bedrooms.

“King Charles doesn’t directly have the authority to evict Prince Andrew, although it’s very clear that he probably would like to”, Bronte Coy, Senior Entertainment Reporter at news.com.au said. “Royal Lodge is part of the Crown Estate. They are managing what needs to be done for Prince Andrew to stay there.”

“They have made it clear that there is an amount that needs to be paid every single year in maintenance and upkeep.Prince Andrew needs to be able to pay those in order to be able to stay in Royal Lodge.”

In addition to this, Andrew’s 75-year lease comes with significant legal protection. The catch is that he is absolutely required to pay for the estate’s upkeep, and since Royal Lodge isn’t among the royal properties receiving taxpayer money for maintenance purposes, he’s really on his own.

If he doesn’t want to move, he’s going to have to find a way to cover the estate’s maintenance costs, and I can tell you it’s not cheap.

Prince Andrew as we know is no longer receiving money from the Royal Grant after stepping down in 2019, following what has been deemed a disaster interview with Emily Maitlis interview.
