Brandon Blackstock, the former husband of Kelly Clarkson, passed away. Just hours before the news arrived, fans were urging critics to be kind and compassionate for once. Read on to find out why.
The Death Of Brandon
Kelly Clarkson, the Season 1 winner of American Idol, went on to build a successful career in music and television. In fact, she was recently slated to host a new NBC show, Songs & Stories, set to premiere later this month.

However, her ex-husband’s declining health diverted her attention from professional commitments, drawing complaints from some critics.
Brandon Blackstock’s death was reported by many outlets. He passed away at the age of 48 after battling cancer for three years. Fans didn’t hear much about his illness until Kelly Clarkson announced postponement plans for her LA shows. However, many ticket holders expressed frustration about it.
Fans Urged Compassion
When Kelly shared about putting her shows on hold, she posted on Instagram:
While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father [ex-husband Brandon Blackstock] has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows, and I so appreciate your grace, kindness, and understanding.
Fans Called For Some Compassion
Unfortunately, “grace, kindness, and understanding” seemed to be greatly lacking among many music lovers who hated the postponement of the shows. Others lamented because they missed live shows during the pandemic days. However, some kind folks stepped up to ask people for more compassion.
One of them ranted at the trolls, saying:
Those people complaining they spent thousands of dollars for a trip… Imagine being that rich and then complaining that someone is choosing to be there for her children while their father is dying…have some compassion and empathy.
Here are few more comments from people who were kind:
- Kelly, your family, esp your kids come first! That’s what makes you so special!
- Never apologize for putting your kids first.
- I saw Kelly last weekend in Vegas, and she had to muster the energy to sing “Piece by Piece’ without crying. I think I understand why now.
Others Reacted After The Death News
Some folks didn’t know that Brandon had passed away, and when the news entered the comments, there seemed to be a change of heart. More kind comments appeared after that. Still, it’s a reminder that these days, many people just don’t seem to have much compassion for famous people. But they are humans as well, and they also have families to care about.
Here are a few of those reactions:
- My heart is broken for River and Remy. Losing a parent is devastating no matter how old you are when it happens. But for it to happen to them at such a young age is incredibly sad.
- I lost my dad 5 days before my 16th birthday. My heart breaks for them.
- I offer my deepest condolences for her loss, Brandon’s family, and all others connected to this unfortunate tragedy.
