Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 Potentially Sees Cristina Yang’s Return?

Almost 10 years ago, Sandra Oh, who played Cristina Yang, left Grey’s Anatomy in the season 10 finale. Fans have missed her and often asked if there was any chance of her returning to the hit hospital drama. Now, a scene in season 19 has hinted at a possible return for Dr. Cristina Yang.

Hints of Dr. Cristina Yang’s return to Grey’s Anatomy

Currently, fans are enjoying season 19 of Grey’s Anatomy, except, of course, for the departures of Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Dr. Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary). However, episode 16 of season 19 gave a hint of Christina Yang’s return to Grey Sloan Memorial.

At the end of that episode, it was revealed that Cristina had sent supplies for Addison’s PRT with a letter hinting at her return. While 10 years have gone by since she left in the season 10 finale, there is hopeful news.

Fans will recall that Cristina lost the Harper Avery Award over a conflict of interest with the hospital. This led to her leaving Seattle to take up a job at the Klausman Institute for Medical Research in Sweden. Meanwhile, her letter confirmed that Cristina is still working there, but was keeping in touch with her friends at Grey Sloan Memorial.

Sandra Oh was one of the five original interns right at the start of Grey’s Anatomy season 1. However, she was also the third to leave the show after George died at the start of season 6. Shortly afterward, Izzie was fired and left Seattle.

Meanwhile, the fact that Cristina wasn’t killed off does open up the possibility for a return to the series and maybe season 19 is the time and place. However, the letter isn’t the first contact Cristina has had with her friends since leaving the show. In season 17, Cristina texted Owen to get an update on Meredith while she had COVID. Moreover, the closest she has gone to returning was when a stand-in actress played her role at Derek’s funeral.

Until the letter she sent to Addison and Bailey, Cristina’s contact normally surrounded Meredith, her best friend. However, the fact she addressed the letter to Addison and Bailey reveals that she has also kept in touch with them.

Meanwhile, the letter that accompanied supplies for Addison’s PRT read: “This should keep you in business for a while. Keep fighting, Yang.”

Let’s hope that, after losing Meredith and Maggie, Cristina Yang will indeed return to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
