GH Spoilers: Maxie Has Released Austin — And He’s Cozying Up To Britt

General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) is going to move on just fine from her relationship with Austin Gatlin Holt (Roger Howarth). Everyone else is treating her a bit more delicately than is required, and they likely don’t know what she’s been preparing for this break-up on some level for a while now.

In fact, she might not have realized that herself until now. Maxie could be pursuing her own love affair with someone else soon, and she is just fine with letting go of Austin, but that doesn’t mean she wants him coupling up with someone in her friend — or family — circle. That’s going to throw a wrench in his plan when Austin makes a play for Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud).

Fans don’t have to worry about what comes next for Maxie. The writing is on the wall; Damian Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) is ready to sweep Maxie off her feet the very second she gives him the green light. That’s easier said than done, though, since Maxie doesn’t seem to be picking up all the signals Spin is throwing her way. Ellie Trout (Emily Wilson) recently asked Spinelli if he had fallen for Maxie again, and while we’d love to give Ellie a nod and pretend she meant as much to Spin as Maxie did, we know better. Diehard fans know Spin was jonesing for Maxie all along, even during his time in Portland with Ellie.

Meanwhile, Austin is licking his wounds and moving along pretty well without Maxie, too. He seemed far more upset about their shattered relationship than Maxie did when they parted ways in Rice Plaza, and it was clear he showed up there knowing they were likely already over. Still, Austin was hoping Maxie had it in her to see things through for one more round. Now that he’s single, it appears Austin is also ready to mingle, and he’s not going to waste any time beating around the bush when he cozies up to Britt at her birthday bash this New Year’s Eve.

It’s a free country. Austin has every right to move on, and he doesn’t even have to be a gentleman about it and consider Maxie’s feelings about who he moves on with. No one would be surprised if he turned out to be a lowlife who didn’t care if he hurt Maxie’s feelings or made her uncomfortable.

However, trying to hook up with or date her sister-in-law is a new level of low that Maxie isn’t familiar with from Austin. Likewise, Britt just might question his motives as well, given that he knows she’s dying and he just broke up with Maxie.
