Y&R Leak: Executive Producer Shakeup Could Demolish Current Storylines

The Young And The Restless The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that our inside source at CBS is hearing some incredible dish about the show’s executive producer position. The job is currently held by Josh Griffith but our source indicates that the show is in talks with Jill Farren Phelps to replace him.

Daytime dramas are no strangers to change behind the scenes as well as in front of the cameras, but this switch would be stunning if it takes place. Let’s break down who these two execs are and what they’re known for.

The Young and the Restless spoilers – Is There An Exec Change Coming?

Phelps has worked as executive producer on a number of soaps including Santa Barbara, Another World, Guiding Light, One Life to Live, General Hospital, and perhaps most importantly, The Young and the Restless.

She started her career in 1974 as a production assistant on Guiding Light. She was the EP of two prime time shows, General Hospital spin-off General Hospital: Night Shift and Nick at Nite’s Hollywood Heights.

As an EP she has won seven Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series. In 2012 she was named EP of The Young and the Restless where she stayed until 2016, when controversial British soap producer Mal Young replaced her.

Griffith began his writing career on Santa Barbara in 1988. Over the years he has worked in various capacities on One Life to Live, Days of our Lives, Sunset Beach, General Hospital and Y&R.

In 2012 he was rehired on The Young and the Restless as the sole head writer and worked with new executive producer Jill Farren Phelps. It wasn’t long before reports of conflict between the two hit the headlines; In August 2013, Griffith resigned.

In August 2018, it was reported that Griffith was returning to The Young and the Restless as supervising producer. In December 2018, Griffith was named Head Writer following the departure of Mal Young.
