Royal Family News: How Kate Middleton’s Title Will Change In The Coming Years

Kate MiddletonBritish Royal family news reveals Kate Middleton, Catherine, Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge, Countess of Strathearn and Lady Carrickfergus… despite being known by these names and titles, the 39-year-old will likely be adding more and changing out others as she rises in the ranks.

Firstly, in the coming years when Prince Charles takes the throne, Kate will have a name change. But probably the biggest and most important name change will happen when her husband Prince William takes the throne and becomes the reigning monarch.

From Kate Middleton To Queen Consort And More

Kate Middleton was bestowed the three titles, Duchess, Countess, and Lady by the Queen after she got married to Prince William ten years ago. For over a decade she has gone by any of these three titles, most famously as the Duchess of Cambridge, but when her father-in-law Prince Charles ascends the throne, she will receive a new one.

When Prince Charles’ status ascends, so will the rest of the titles held by senior royals. This means that Prince William will take the title Prince of Wales after Prince Charles has dropped the title.

It will also mean that Kate will likely inherit the title Princess of Wales — the same title held by Prince William and Prince Charles’ mother, Princess Diana, and which would have been held by Charles’ second wife had she not turned it down out of respect.

When Prince William eventually takes over from his father Prince Charles as the reigning monarch, Kate will once again undergo a title change to become known as Queen Catherine. Officially though, she will be Queen consort, as she isn’t from the royal line but rather married into it.

Kate will celebrate the big promotion/name change as there will be a ceremony to commemorate the change, though not as big as William’s crowning ceremony. She will also be given ownership over all the tails of every sturgeon, dolphin, and whale that swims in all the British-owned waters as a result of a mysterious and ancient law.

As the royals progress through the ranks, so will their children. Their eldest son, Prince George, will then take over as the Prince of Wales in lieu of Prince William becoming King.

As the days go on, should Kate Middleton outlive her husband Prince William, she will then have the option of styling herself as the Queen Mother.

“When [Prince] George is King, she can choose to be styled as HM Queen Catherine, the Queen Mother,” royal author Marlene Koenig told Town & Country.

Kate Middleton is headed for some name switch-ups in the future, and it’s fun looking forward to seeing her rise through the ranks.
