Royal Family News: Every Royal But The Queen Should Work?

British royal family news reveals that Republic CEO Graham Smith is reminding the UK taxpayer that the queen is the only member of the Royal Family that should receive financial support from the nation. In his opinion.

Republic is an anti-monarchist group that advocates for the Queen to be replaced by an elected, democratic head of state and for the monarchy to be abolished. Now he is calling for the royals to earn their keep, and a deep slashing of the monarch’s funds.

Royal Family News – Not Everyone Loves The Queen

Smith said, “I think the only way you can solve the problem of the monarchy is to get rid of it. It is always a problem whether it is one person or fifteen people.”

“But while we have a monarchy what Republic has been proposing for some time is that we only pay for the head of state. It is there to give us one person which is the Queen as head of state. We should therefore only pay for the Queen.”

“The budget could be slashed from £345 million down to less than £10 million a year.”

The taskmaster went on to say that, “The Queen should then be on a salary similar to the Prime Minister and we then fund an office to manage her engagements.”

“The rest of them should go off and do their own thing, we do not owe them a living, we do not owe them any kind of position, title or status.”

If this is how he feels, he must love Megxit!

It’s almost as if he’s referencing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle when he says, “It is time they were all told to go and earn their own way like the rest of us.”

Royal Family News – Did Prince Harry Do The Right Thing?

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams does not agree with Smith. He told Express.co.uk that the intrinsic value of the Royal Family to Britain is epic: “The core cost of the monarchy is 74p per person per year excluding security. The much-needed refurbishment of Buckingham Palace brings the cost up to £1.24.”

He went on to say, “The value of the monarchy to Britain is huge, Brand Finance has called it ‘Britain’s greatest treasure’ and Republic, as always, ignore the monarchy’s benefit for royal tours abroad, charity and tourism. Every country contributes to the expenses of its head of state.”

No matter which side you’re on, it is hard to argue with his rhetorical question: “How could you put a price on the boost to the nation’s morale of the three historic broadcasts, including her Christmas message, which the Queen has made during the pandemic?”
