Earlier this month, Corey Rathgeber and Evelin Villegas shocked everyone with their secret marriage. The 90 Day Fiance couple came clean about their real status on the show, which drew mixed reactions online.

During an episode of The Other Way, Evelin dropped the bombshell revelation to her family, which did not sit well with them. Corey, on the other hand, shared more details about it on social media.

He revealed that they didn’t tell anyone because “Evelin wasn’t ready for her family or anyone to know she had gotten married” to him. Still, Corey said their wedding day was very memorable, even with just two strangers as their witnesses.

Corey also explained that they “didn’t feel obligated to inform” the production team about it because the wedding took place after they filmed for season 1.

Meanwhile, Evelin Villegas still doesn’t believe in the concept of marriage. This is despite being married to Corey Rathgeber for over a year now.

“I still think [marriage] is not necessary and my experience was that definitely, things are better before getting married,” the 90 Day Fiance star said.

Evelin goes as far as comparing marriage to a “contract.” “People want to put romance in what is really a contract,” she said. “The real romance is to stay with someone just because you love them without forcing them to legally sign the paper to be with you forever.”

Despite her stand on marriage, Evelin Villegas still ended up marrying Corey Rathgeber. The 90 Day Fiance star said she did it because she loves him.

“Sometimes, you got to do things that you don’t want to give happiness to the person you love,” she added.

Evelin also clarified that their decision to marry has nothing to do with the show. The reality star said insists 90 Day Fiance is merely a platform for them to share their real-life story.

“The production team or 90 Day world had nothing to do with our marriage,” Evelin added. “They film what we go through but are not part of our life decisions.
