Is The Queen Treating Sophie Wessex With Blatant Favoritism?

The QueenIs the Queen guilty of favoritism within her family? Because a possible royal move isn’t going to do anything to squash rumors that Sophie, Countess of Wessex is Queen Elizabeth’s favorite daughter-in-law! She is a confidante who is regularly seen with the monarch both professionally and personally.

Sophie and her husband Prince Edward took on an Earldom after their 1999 wedding and they can claim additional promotions; right now Sophie is in possession of half of the Earldom of Wessex but she can upgrade to a Duchy.

That’s not all. The Duchy she might claim is one of the most coveted, and Edward is in the candidate pool for the prize.

What Is Going On With the Queen And Her Family And Their Titles?

Here is how the title competition is currently playing out: When Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh dies, his title will revert back to the ruling monarch. This means that it goes to the next in line to the throne who is Prince Charles if the Queen is still ruling, or Prince William if his father has claimed the throne.

So, Prince Charles could pass the Duchy where he wants, but the Queen herself would likely give it to her youngest son?

Edward has helped his father with his Duke of Edinburgh work, and this puts him next in line for their premiere Duchy.

Will Andrew And Sophie Claim A Prime Duchy?

In 2015 a royal source spilled to The Times, “The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is very much Prince Edward’s thing. That is a big part of what he does now because he will be the next Duke of Edinburgh.”

And, if Prince Edward takes this title, his wife becomes the Duchess of Edinburgh. This coveted promotion appears very likely according to royal expert Hugo Vickers. He says it is one of the things Andrew would dearly love as a royal.

“He has taken on the role with the (Duke of Edinburgh’s) award to support his father, so it’s a wonderful thing that he could take on his title when the time comes.”

Not only that, but Edward is also the only one of his male siblings without a Duchy. His sister Anne, Princess Royal, is not allowed one because she is female.

Andrew’s Earldom covers an area that is not in the UK as Wessex was an ancient kingdom, one of the seven Anglo-Saxon England. The kingdom is featured in the legends of King Arthur, and the film Shakespeare in Love.
