The Young and the Restless News: Is The Soap Looking For A New Writer?

“The Young and the Restless” continues to drop in ratings, which added to the sparks on the rumors that the soap is looking for a new head writer. Is Y&R heading for a major behind-the-scenes change?

A column Lynda Hirsch, who is known as “the person who knows everything about daytime soaps,” reveals that “The Young and the Restless” seems to be on the hunt for someone new to take the helm of the daytime soap.

“It appears ‘The Young and the Restless’ is looking for a new head writer,” Hirsch wrote. “The show continues to tumble in the ratings. Some actors are said to have developed tics over what the characters are doing.”

“Head writing change always has cast members wondering if they will make the cut. Whoever takes over, they need to repair lots of damage,” she added.

Days’ Dena Higley A Prospect For Y&R

She went on to say that head writing a soap is tough. Even so, it can be incredibly rewarding when things turn to work out well. “We aren’t just talking about money. From mental illness to pap tests to Alzheimer’s, daytime has proven it can educate the audience while entertaining it,” Hirsch said.

Rumors also revealed that Dena Higley, former head writer of Days of Our Lives, has met up with Steve Kent, who helms “The Young and the Restless.” It fuels the rumor that the sudser is looking for a new head writer, and Higley is a potential candidate. However, nothing has materialized yet out of the said meeting.

Lots to Fix On Young And Restless Storylines

Josh Griffith is the current head writer of “The Young and the Restless.” He took the rein in January, after Mal Young’s two-year stint on the soap. Young’s leadership was filled with controversies, especially as many actors were fired during his rein. When Griffith was brought in, fans and actors alike are hoping for the reversal of some of the most controversial moves that Young did, especially the return of the many fan favorites.

Griffith’s vision was to bring “The Young and the Restless” to its iconic core sensibility, which is why he brought back several original characters into the mix. Is Griffith stepping down already after a 12-month run?
