The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Lola Arrives – Rosales Family Expands

The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Lola Arrives – Rosales Family ExpandsLola (Sasha Calle) expands the Rosales’ family this week on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Her brother’s Arturo (Jason Canela) and Rey (Jordi Vilasuso) were introduced earlier this year. Together, these characters represent the first entirely new family Y&R has created in fifteen years.

Christian Le Blanc (Michael Baldwin) debuted on the show in 1991. He developed Michael into a regular character through a compelling storyline that first involved Christine (Lauralee Bell). Greg Rikaart was cast to play Kevin, Michael’s brother, in 2003. Judith Chapman became their mother, Gloria, in 2005.

Lola, along with Arturo, becomes a key part of Y&R’s younger character demographic. She’s around twenty, Arturo is in his mid-twenties, and Rey is a middle-aged detective who may be taking the reins from Paul (Doug Davidson) at the Genoa City Police Department.

Industry veteran Lisa de Cazotte became Y&R’s supervising producer last December. All soaps regularly churn backstage leaders. So her addition merely represented the latest add in an ever-evolving daytime game that generates regular advertising revenue streams.

Executive producer and head writer Mal Young and de Cazotte clearly plotted and have implemented a noticeable shift in Y&R’s overall direction, as has been seen by various cast exits, additions, and controversial storyline changes. Their choice to create Arturo, Rey, and Lola enables existing GC residents to pursue fresh adventures.

The need to retain hardcore soap supporters, while also attempting to grow Y&R’s fan base is surely a complex task. Currently drawing more than five million live daily viewers in the United States and Canada combined makes this show the reigning scripted daytime ratings’ leader.

Those numbers, along with time-shifted recordings and streamed episode views mean mega-money for broadcast networks that are competing with countless entertainment choices. Lola therefore represents the latest carefully considered adjustment made by those in charge at Y&R.

True soap fans have always known and expect change. So they will give Calle’s character and all other new ideas on this show a chance. Promoting and furthering the genre is in the interests of those within the industry and all who want to see it survive, or even thrive.
