General Hospital: Is Out Of Character Writing and History Changes Costing Viewers

Some General Hospital fans are beyond furious at how the writers are handling Jason and Sam’s interaction these days and with good reason.  The real Jason Morgan [Steve Burton] was gone for almost five years and fans expected a better connection than what these writers have shown between Sam [Kelly Monaco] and Jason.  Sam is still written out of character and some fans are fed up to the point of tuning out.

Totally Out Of Character Reactions

Never would Sam have not known the difference between Jake Doe [Billy Miller] and Jason Morgan.  Fans knew better and Sam would have too.  Never would Sam have been so cold toward Jason, even when Sam and Jason were apart they acted closer than this. Sam is loyal but she is more loyal to Jason than anyone, Drew would have been dropped like a hat when Jason Morgan pulled Sam out of the water.  Do writers need to STOP the OOC writing and research the history of these characters?

Dragging And Dropped Storylines

Why do these writers keep dropping stories or picking things up years after the fact? Viewers lose interest waiting so long for payoffs. Fans do not want to see weeks, months, or years down the road to see a flashback of what happened after that elevator scene.  We want real time action and reaction.  GH characters mean a lot to their fans and we don’t want things changed that we know to be true about a character. We also don’t appreciate history being rewritten to give credit to a story that makes no sense.

Research Before Rewrites

Also, if you do rewrite history, check your dates.  The day that Peter [Wes Ramsey] was supposedly born, Anna  Devane [Finola Hughes] was home with Robert [Tristan Rogers] and Robin [Kimberly McCullough].  We also know Anna was a virgin when she got with Robert, but now she had a child before.  Do you not realize that by changing history, you change the emotions and the connection to the writing and the characters of the time it happened?

Emmy Worthy Stories

Are Emmy worthy stories ruined with rewrites?  Bringing back Jake after that Emmy winning story was not a popular decision.  It’s a shame to take something written because of an event in a writer’s life and change it.  Again, totally ruining the impact of the story and even the actor’s feelings toward it.

General Hospital airs weekdays on the ABC network.
