Coronation Street Star Passes AwayA Coronation Street fan favorite has passed away. There are new reports that say actor Peter Armitage has died at the age of 78. The actor was best known for his role as Bill Webster on the hit ITV soap.

The veteran actor revealed several years ago that he successfully beat bowel cancer but the cause of his death is currently unknown. His good friend and co-star Charlie Lawson, who plays Jim McDonald on Coronation Street, posted the news about Peter’s death on social media. He wrote, “It’s with great sadness, that I’ve to tell you my great old friend Pete Armitage has died. RIP mate.”

Several other Coronation Street actors also took to their social media accounts to express their sadness over Peter’s death, stating that he was a great man to work with. Simon Gregson wrote, “I loved Pete what a lovely man very sad RIP lovely man,” while Samia Longchambon added, “So sorry to hear this Charlie. Pete was such a lovely man. he’ll be sadly missed.”

Even though the actor has been on Coronation Street from 1988 to 2011, he was also known for his roles on several other British television series. His most recent guest appearance was on Doctors back in 2013. He also had roles on Sorted, the hit medical soap Casualty, The Royal, Magic Grandad, the mini-series The Second Coming and Holby City. It’s without a doubt that his family and close friends will definitely miss him, along with all of his fans.
