‘The Young and The Restless’ News: Shocking Emmy Snubs Among Outstanding Y&R Cast

'The Young and The Restless' News: Shocking Emmy Snubs Among Outstanding Y&R CastWhen the prestigious Daytime Emmy Awards pre-nominations were announced this week there were some startling snubs among the outstanding cast of, “The Young and the Restless.” Several deserving actors got the nod, but after reading the 44th annual awards list you might have serious beef with some of the names left out in the cold.

Outstanding Lead Actress

Jess Walton (Jill Abbott)
Sharon Case (Sharon McAvoy)
Gina Tognoni (Phyllis Summers)

Who can argue with the three nominated actresses? They’re all excellent scene stealers, but what about Mishael Morgan (Hilary)? She had plenty of reason to be included, including her scheming turn as the Prada-wearing boss from Hades over at GC Buzz. Just when it looked like we were stuck with Hilary’s sweetness and light act, the man-eater we all love to hate reared her ugly head and spent the better part of the year tormenting employees, almost killing one.

And where is perennial favorite Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman)? She suffered through Victor’s callous treatment with fierce dignity and then played a soft, remorseful wife with spot-on emotional finesse.

Outstanding Supporting Actor

Steve Burton (Dylan McAvoy)
Sean Carrigan (Stitch Rayburn)
Bryton James (Devon Hamilton)

C’mon, no one buys Steve Burton (Dylan McAvoy) as a supporting actor! The man had major storyline all through 2016. Instead, why isn’t Daniel Goddard (Cane) on the list? Viewers got to see Goddard go from his usual mild-mannered family man act to being an almost-addict. Plus, he mixed it up pretty good with Billy (Jason Thompson) showing he can still play mean and nasty when necessary.

Outstanding Supporting Actress

Eileen Davidson (Ashley Abbott)
Stacy Haiduk (Patty Williams)
Amelia Heinle (Victoria Newman)
Elizabeth Hendrickson (Chloe Mitchell)
Kelly Sullivan (Sage Warner)

Yes, this category is stuffed full with Y&R actresses, but there’s room for one more: Camryn Grimes (Mariah). She played the full range of emotions in 2016, and showed why the show was wise to bring her back to the canvas. We saw jilted Mariah cope with being dumped by her boyfriend and then shouldering the weight of lying for her baby snatching mother. Grimes is an underrated actress.

Outstanding Lead Actor

Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott)
Christian LeBlanc (Michael Baldwin)
Kristoff St. John (Neil Winters)
Jason Thompson (Billy Abbott)

Sorry, but you can’t include Peter Bergman on the list and not include his arch nemesis Eric Braeden! Last year we witnessed Victor play a woeful prison inmate and then portray a free man in the midst of a midlife crisis! He’s a legend and should be on every award list known to man!
