Neighbours News: Hugh Jackman’s Shock Ramsay Street Confession

Neighbours News: Hugh Jackman's Shock Ramsay Street ConfessionNeighbours news reveals that if things had been different, Wolverine could have been a resident on Ramsay street!

Hugh Jackman recently revealed that he was offered a job on the Australian soap Neighbours, but after much deliberation turned the offer down.

In an interview with TV Week, the 49-year-old actor revealed, “I was offered a job on Neighbours which was a very successful soap opera in Australia at the time, the same weekend that I was offered a place at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts which was a prestigious drama school.”

He explained, “So I had the choice of, ‘Do I go and work as a working actor on a two-year contract, or do I go and study?’ I was 24 years old so I wasn’t young in acting terms and I really didn’t know what to do.”

Finally, the actor disclosed, “I thought, ‘Two years on a soap opera is not going to make me confident to go to the Royal Shakespeare Company in London and audition, so instead I went to study’.”

As we all well know, Hugh’s decision definitely worked out, as he went on to land his career defining role of Wolverine in the X-men series. Hugh is also known for holding the protagonist role in many other major blockbuster films, such as Van Helsing, Les Miserables and Real Steel.

Of course, if he had taken the role, Hugh would not be the only major Hollywood star that started out their acting career on Ramsay Street. Throwing it back to the OG’s, Alan Dale was in Neighbours when it first started, playing Jim Robinson. He went on to star in many different major programmes and films, including The OC, Torchwood and The West Wing.

The famous Hemsworth have both also been in Neighbours, though admittedly not for a long stretch. And who can forget Kylie Minogue? Former Ramsay street resident turned Queen of Pop. Kylie stared as fan favourite Charlene Robinson, and stayed on the soap for a few years before breaking into the music industry.

With many other big actors starting out in the Australian soap, it’s safe to say it’s a great place for people to kick off their career. Though this wasn’t the case for Hugh, he surely would have been a fantastic addition to the cast.
