Michael Muhney Return Hopes Remain Alive - Kimberlin Brown's B&B Contract Provides Path

Kimberlin Brown’s (Sheila) recently announced one-year deal with ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ could mean that ‘The Young and the Restless’ is about to offer its own summer shock. Brown’s contract with B&B appears to make it more likely that Michael Muhney will return to play Adam again.

Readers, play the long game for a moment. Of course Y&R would be more buzzworthy if both Brown and Muhney returned to their famous roles at approximately the same time. But since Sheila won’t become a resident of Genoa City until at least the summer of 2018, doesn’t it make sense that another high-profile personality would be resurrected?

Muhney’s stunning exit from Y&R’s cast sent soap fans into a collective daze just prior to Christmas 2013. His version of Adam was last seen in January 2014, during a violent (literal) cliffhanger. Adam and Billy (then played by Billy Miller) morphed into new editions of themselves as other actors assumed their roles. David Tom briefly became Billy, while Justin Hartley was cast that summer and debuted as Adam in the fall.

Hartley’s interpretation of Adam was well received, which did help to honor that character within the show. But his voluntary departure was announced last summer. Adam was then seemingly blown to bits by Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) early last September.

Hendrickson filmed her final Y&R scenes on June 7. So Chloe’s write-out will take place approximately six weeks from that date.

Y&R opted to resolve the Chloe portion of what had been the lingering Adam murder mystery within the last month. Doing so enables a likely fitting sendoff for both Hendrickson and Greg Rikaart (Kevin), who’s also leaving the cast.

Bold Kimberlin Brown

Now, consider Brown’s unexpected return and the anti-hero hole that still exists in Y&R’s cast. If B&B spiced up its summer by resurrecting an all-time villain (who’s a Y&R crossover character), it also makes sense to speculate that Genoa City will receive a shock later this summer.

Those who doubted that Brown could return as Sheila may have been surprised on June 9. Some of those people might be reconsidering cemented views about Muhney, even though his situation was and is different than Brown’s. Yes, anything is possible on the soaps and in Hollywoodland.

The ideal Adam resurrection wouldn’t be based on how he returns, or be centered on the suspension of disbelief issue involving his changed face. Instead, on one momentous day a voice over would simply announce that, “The role of Adam Newman is now being played by Michael Muhney.”, and then the soap world would be turned upside down.
