‘Days Of Our Lives’ News: Drew Donovan Returns – Charles Shaughnessy Brings Back 80’s Twin

'Days Of Our Lives' News: Drew Donovan Returns - Charles Shaughnessy Brings Back 80's Twin“Days of Our Lives,” fans will soon be seeing double, but there’s no need to adjust your screen! Starting next month Charles Shaughnessy (Shane Donovan) will also be seen as Drew Donovan, Shane’s twin brother.

Shaughnessy will be doing double Donovan duty starting February 1. DOOL viewers last saw Shane’s mirror image in 1988.

Although the brothers are identical physically, Drew is definitely a darker version of good guy Shane. Both joined the ISA but when we last saw Drew he skipped town after kidnapping Carrie Brady (Christie Clark).

Carrie is now happily married to her long-time love Austin Reed (Austin Peck) and living overseas.

DOOL viewers have enjoyed seeing her and Austin in the current storyline involving the presumed-dead Stefano (Joseph Mascolo). Could the Phoenix be alive and doing business in Prague?

It’s likely that we’ll see Drew figure into this storyline, but will he vindicate himself and his reputation, or will he be part of Stefano’s dirty dealings?

Loyal DOOL fans know that there’s been a big shakeup at the soap, with a recent stunning change in head writers. Dena Higley is no longer writing for the sudser, and former, “General Hospital,” scribe Ron Carlivati has been enshrined in her place.

With the switch in head writers we can expect to see some seismic changes in Salem, could Drew be a part of the plot? It remains to be seen what alterations Emmy-winning Carlivati brings to his latest daytime gig, but if history is any indicator, fasten your seat belts DOOL fans!

Until his departure in 2015, Carlivati was responsible for some exciting story arcs during his GH tenure, and no doubt he’ll be asked to shake things up in stodgy Salem.

DOOL needs an infusion (stat!) of energy and excitement to boost its ratings and extend its contract past 2017.

What could be better for ratings than an accomplished, veteran actor playing good-guy/bad-guy twins? Time will tell if fan fave Shaughnessy is part of a long-term DOOL story, but we’re hoping he is!
