Coronation Street Will 'Make Soap History' When Pat Phelan Is Exposed

It doesn’t get any bigger than this: Coronation Street will make soap history with the Pat Phelan (Connor McIntyre) storyline. So says his on-screen daughter Nicola Rubenstein (Nicola Thorp). And she should know, right?

There’s absolutely lots of potential for historic storytelling, what with bad-guy Pat’s tragic past. Let’s see, he’s pulled a massive fleecing of Corrie residents, attacked innocent Anna Windass (Debbie Rush), committed murder, callously watched another man die, and the list goes on and on. Intimidation, blackmail, you get the picture! But with Nicola appearing out of nowhere, and a DNA test that proves they’re related, Pat has (maybe?) seen the error of his ways.

His beautiful daughter is a social worker and Pat is appalled at the thought of having to confess to her all of the awful things he’s done. What he does end up doing is confessing all to a priest!

At least he feels shame, which is a first step toward coming clean with himself and his loved ones. It looks like Pat is about to confront some very old, very wretched and powerful, demons. It’s the perfect setup for a classic, soapy plot that will have longtime fans riveted, and new viewers flocking to see what happens next.

In an interview on ITV’s Lorraine, Nicola revealed, “It’s got to come out at some point. He’s got two choices; he can either own up to what he’s done and hope she loves him for who he is, or does he do everything he can to hide it?”

Either way, the brunette beauty and disability rights activist promised that Corrie fans won’t be disappointed come autumn when the fallout from Pat’s criminal life hits the fan. “It’s a really exciting time,” she previews, “If you don’t already watch Corrie then now is the time to start! I can’t reveal too much but what is going to happen over the next few months is going to make soap history!”
