Coronation Street Alum Claire King Opens Up About Her Decision To Quit Corrie And Reality TV Regrets

Coronation Street actress Claire King has opened up about her decision to quit the highly rated British soap and why she will never do reality television again. As a matter of fact, the blonde beauty hinted that she is prepared to take on more serious roles, as she wants to take her career in a totally different direction.

It’s without a doubt that fans will always remember Claire best as her role as the manipulative Kim Tate on the long-running series Emmerdale. But unfortunately her transition from one television soap to another wasn’t a smooth one. Many viewers couldn’t help but wonder why Claire was playing a character who only popped up for brief romantic storylines and not much else. Fed up with her lack of good screen time, Claire left to pursue bigger and better things, including her new role in the Peter Pan pantomime at Belfast’s Grande Opera House.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, Claire makes it no secret that she still holds a little resentment towards the writers at Coronation Street for not giving her character the attention that she deserved.

She said, “I felt the writing wasn’t working for me. It was always difficult as I came in as a lone wolf, Liz’s friend from Spain, with no family. I was like a pinball bouncing around these different situations. It’s a pity; I’d imagined three or four of us sitting round a table chewing the cud – me, Sue Cleaver (Eileen), Beverly Callard (Liz), Patti Clare (Mary) – like the real Coronation Street of old. That’s what I always loved about it.”

If that weren’t enough, Claire also says that she will never appear on a reality television show again, and for good reason.

“Celebrity Big Brother nearly killed me,” she admitted. “Reality isn’t really my cup of tea. I’m A Celebrity? I wouldn’t mind the creepy crawlies, it’s the other people that would be the problem!”
