‘The Young and The Restless’ Spoilers: Mariah Remains Trapped Between Family and Romantic Problems

Mariah’s (Camryn Grimes) mother is forcing her to keep an explosive paternity secret. At the same time, this character’s romantic efforts have been stunted by a photogenic hacker from Switzerland. Each arc is trapping Mariah between family and romantic problems on ‘The Young and the Restless’.

At least Sharon (Sharon Case) chose to confide in someone about her latest baby dilemma. But, burdening Mariah with her Sully lie is wrong. No responsible parent would ask a child to assist in a presenting a morality play where the biological reality of Sage’s (Kelly Sullivan) son Christian remains buried. Yet, Sharon has done just that, which puts Mariah in an unmanageable situation.

Kevin (Greg Rikaart) can’t be faulted for liking Natalie (Mara McCaffray). He shares common computer interests with the Swiss native and naturally finds her to be appealing. It’s true that Mariah pushed Kevin off awhile ago when he wanted to become more involved. But, past relationships should have made her realize that a good soul is worth compromise on certain issues.

The return of Grimes to ‘The Young and the Restless’ in 2013 was loudly cheered by a wide swatch of devoted fans. This terrific actor arguably embodied the best child character in Y&R’s history. Cassie’s shocking death, that gruelingly played out over a decade ago, easily ranks with the most heart-wrenching series of episodes in recent daytime memory.

Cassie was frequently shown in flashback sequences, or as a visiting angel through the years. But, Grimes’ announced return made savvy soap fans wonder if Cassie would somehow be revived. Thankfully, that plot tact was never pursued and instead Mariah arrived in Genoa City on ‘The Young and the Restless’.

Grimes reintroduction to the show came via one of Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) more memorable schemes. He paid her to play Cassie’s ghost in order to gaslight an older baby secret out of Sharon. In time, Mariah Copeland Ward (Yes, Ian Ward, as played by Ray Wise) was revealed as Cassie’s twin and bonded with her mother. Now, this grounded young woman will need to summon her inner strength skills as she continues to face the dual battles of family and romantic issues. Considering Grimes’ solid acting skills, viewers are right to believe that Mariah will endure indefinitely.
