‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Nick and Chelsea To Remain Friends – Chick Option Pushed to 2017

Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) have been growing closer on ‘The Young and the Restless’ since the fall. These poor souls are still grieving the loss of their spouses while also raising their children. A seeming option for ‘Chick’ to form on New Year’s Eve was stopped, but still remains an option as 2017 dawns.

Viewers have mixed opinions where this pairing is concerned. That makes sense because, among other factors both characters were forced to exit relationships in 2016. Nick’s marriage to Sage (Kelly Sullivan) wasn’t overly praised, or chided. Chelsea’s connections with both Adam’s (Michael Muhney and Justin Hartley) elicited passionate feelings among many fans.

Since Nick is a long-standing legacy character, devoted Y&R fans naturally know reams of information about his backstory, including the romantic chapters. Chelsea arrived in 2011, with her first mark having been Billy (then played by Billy Miller). After she reformed herself, Adam became her soul mate.

It will be interesting to see if new head writer Sally Sussman follows through with former head writer Chuck Pratt’s proposed super couple arc. As with all soap scribe transitions, Sussman has the option to pair off whoever.

This scribe believes that Morrow and Egan have demonstrated natural on-screen chemistry. So, ‘Chick’ might be worth a try. It would seem unlikely that these two specific characters would remain single through the coming year and neither has another currently viable option. The time factor may also play into their pairing, as introducing a new character for one, or both people to bond with would involve extensive writing effort.

Purely on a believability level, Nick and Chelsea’s organically developing friendship naturally opens the door to romance options. Their personalities are mostly similar, as they generally ride on an even keel. And, Victor (Eric Braeden) is fond of Chelsea due to her love for Adam and the fact that she’s Connor’s mother. That family factor is always important.

Christian (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) would benefit from having a mother figure. Chelsea is considered to be his aunt, but actually may be his step-mother due to Adam’s purported paternal claim on this child. And, that caveat also establishes an eventual secret to be revealed within this proposed ‘Chick’ union.
