'The Young and The Restless' Spoilers: Jack Abbott Not Taking The High Road Billy And Phyllis Better Watch Out

Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) just learned that ‘Philly’ exists on ‘The Young and the Restless’. So, of course he’s going to be enraged. Now, both targets of his wrath better look out because he’s going to verbally attack them everywhere in Genoa City.

‘Smilin’ Jack’ tried to take the high road last year. After Victor’s (Eric Braeden) diabolically demented scheme played out, Jack decided to change his personal philosophy. Rather than continue fighting with the ‘Moustache’, he opted to disengage. But, as with all things Newman, there were consequences connected to that strategy as well.

Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) wanted her husband to defend her honor after the revelation about Marco (Peter Bergman) came to pass. While she was victimized, Phyllis chose to forget that Jack was also wronged. Kidnapped by Kelly (Cady McClain) and held on her version of ‘Fantasy Island’, Jack easily could have died. Instead, he survived and was made to believe that he was somehow responsible for Kelly’s supposed death. Then, he and Marisa (Sofia Pernas) endured a fierce sea voyage, after which they eventually found their way to Wisconsin.

The idea that his own brother, Billy (Jason Thompson), would insert himself into Phyllis’ life at a vulnerable time is incredible. In this instance, her actual betrayal of Jack was far worse than whatever perceived wrong he didn’t right where Victor was concerned. And, she should have just gotten over it.

Each half of this rotten ‘Philly’ apple is as indigestible as the other. Animals act on impulse. Enlightened individuals accept human beings’ free will as fact and should control themselves.

The climax to this arc doesn’t seem to offer an opportunity for a happy ending. Jack forgave Phyllis years ago when she purposefully veered in Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) direction. Then, he genuinely accepted the product of that relationship, Summer (Hunter King). But, this time, with Billy, no that’s too much! ‘Phack’ is over, finished, done. And, Jack has earned the right to rant about what happened to anyone in Genoa City for as long as he wants.
