‘The Young and The Restless’ POLL: Will Chelsea Lose Adam – Chadam To Split? VOTE!

'The Young and The Restless' POLL: Will Chelsea Lose Adam - Chadam To Split? VOTE!Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) was just informed that her husband will likely be freed from prison on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Needed evidence that should exonerate Adam (Justin Hartley) was discovered by the Genoa City Police Department. But, will his pending freedom lead to ‘Chadam’ splitting?

Despondency drove Adam to distance himself from Chelsea almost as soon as he was incarcerated at Walworth. He also reacted bitterly after his wife brought Connor (Gunner and Ryder Gadbois) to the inmate’s visiting room on his son’s birthday. Each response was linked to his belief that Victor (Eric Braeden) wants him to remain in prison for the next 30 years and won’t follow through on a promise to clear his name.

Many viewers of ‘The Young and the Restless’ know that Hartley’s inclusion in NBC’s soon-to-debut prime time series ‘This Is Us’ will require him to step away from his daytime gig for awhile. Hartley’s nighttime show is slotted after ‘The Voice’, which will afford it a huge lead-in audience and therefore a better opportunity to become a hit. Unless Y&R has already decided to recast this role, the Adam character will remain in limbo for the foreseeable future, which is why ‘Chadam’ will likely face trouble.

Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) actually reconciled with Victor when he was in the pen. But, Chelsea is a different person. While she loves her husband, the idea of a young mother choosing to go it alone indefinitely won’t flow for long. However, if Sage’s (Kelly Sullivan) diary pages earn Adam’s release in the near future ‘Chadam’ still isn’t safe.

While not officially moving to recurring status, the writing staff of ‘The Young and the Restless’ could push a freed Adam in a different direction. Assume that he decides to pursue ‘Bethany’ (Chrishell Stause), who’s been tagged as his framer. She’s absconded to some unknown part of the world. Tracking her could take months, with prerecorded scenes magically keeping Hartley in the mix. Of course, a temporary replacement could also play Adam starting in the fall and if that actor does well, assume the role if Hartley resigns in the future.

With however this situation is played, viewers will keep their gaze focused on any new love interest that is put in Chelsea’s orbit. Establishing an alternate romantic option would buy time if Hartley’s planned absence removes Adam from regular scenes and setup a marital conflict to eventually be resolved. Pursuing this creative route would also keep the plot window open in case Hartley opts to bow out, assuming ‘This Is Us’ becomes a Nielsen Ratings hit and is renewed for a second full season.
