‘The Young and The Restless’ News: Jerry Douglas Returning to Genoa City

'The Young and The Restless' News: Jerry Douglas Returning to Genoa City‘Young and the Restless’ (YR) spoilers reveal that Jerry Douglas is coming back to reprise his role of our beloved John Abbott. He will be on the episode airing on Monday, September 26th.

Recently, we have heard Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and his sister, Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) reminiscing about their deceased father, and wishing his spirit/ghost would make another appearance. John Abbott may not be alive anymore, but his spirit always arrives when he is needed most with some very sage advice. John’s spirit has returned many times to his children and friends, in their time of need.

John Abbott (Jerry Douglas) is the patriarch of one of the core families on The Young and the Restless. The Abbott family was introduced to Y&R fans onscreen in 1980. He has been the sole parent of his children since 1972, when his wife, Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) left town. He, of course, had a lot of help from the Abbott maid, Mamie Johnson (Veronica Redd), who was more of a surrogate mother than a maid. In 1982, it was discovered that Dina had an affair and that Brent Davis was Ashley’s biological father, not John; something that remains a secret to most characters.

Young and the Restless’ John Abbott is like any other character in Genoa City, six marriages and four children, with his last marriage being lethal. In 2004, he fell in love and married a much younger woman, Gloria Fisher (Judith Chapman). A woman with many secrets, including that she had two sons, Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc) and Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart).

Gloria was a con woman, and was always looking for her next “mark”, but when her estranged husband, Tom Fisher (Roscoe Born) learned about her wealthy husband, he began blackmailing her. In true Young and the Restless style, once the truth was out, Tom caused havoc at Michael and Lauren’s (Tracey E. Bergman) wedding, taking the bride hostage. Before Gloria could meet Tom, John overheard their conversation and went to meet Tom in an alley. They struggled and Tom’s gun went off, and Tom died. John left the alley and got into a car accident.

Left with amnesia, Ashley “confessed” to killing Tom, but when John’s memories came back, he told the truth and was sentenced to 7 years in prison. After a fatal fight with his inmates, John had a stroke and was left in a vegetative state. Since John had signed a DNR, Gloria and her two sons, Michael and Kevin agreed that they will abide by John’s wishes.

Are you excited to see John Abbott back, who we can assume is going to visit one of his children to give them his fatherly advice? John’s 3 children currently living in Genoa City are struggling. Will he be visiting Jack, once he realizes how deep Phyllis’ betrayal really is? Or will it be Ashley, who has had a tough time health-wise, and is currently single? Or will it be Billy (Jason Thompson), when and if, it turns out that he is Bella’s (Cali May Kinder) father?

Be sure to watch CBS’ The Young and the Restless, and be on the lookout for John Abbott’s ghostly return on Monday, September 26th. Check Soap Opera Spy often for updates, news and spoilers!
