‘General Hospital’ News: Rebecca Campbell Takes Over ABC Daytime – What Does That Mean for GH Showrunners?

'General Hospital' News: Rebecca Campbell Takes Over ABC Daytime – What Does That Mean for GH Showrunners?‘General Hospital’ (GH) news coming from Broadcast Central just revealed that Rebecca Campbell has taken over the reins at ABC Daytime – does that mean another showrunner may be out soon? First Paul Lee left as President of the Entertainment Division then Channing Dungey stepped in to take on that role.

Dungey’s promotion from Executive VP of Drama to President was a major promotion and now Rebecca Campbell has taken over daytime. But does that mean that Campbell’s promotion as the new head of ABC daytime is a black mark against someone else at GH?

We have to wonder is this about more than a rearranging of the top power tier at ABC? What do you think GH fans? Do you think Rebecca Campbell has been brought in to replace someone at ABC daytime or just to shake things up?

Is this just musical chairs at the top levels of ABC or is there more meaning here? According to BroadcastingCable.com, Campbell is a “rising star” who was appointed president of ABC’s owned stations six year ago.

Ben Sherwood, President of Disney-ABC TV said, “Please join me in supporting Rebecca as she leads Daytime to even greater heights.” In a promotion announcement document, it said that Campbell has daytime production experience while at a local station and was station group chief before.

With Dungey now in charge as President, according to Soap Central, there is already talk of belt tightening and less “soapy serials.” Do we have to worry about our beloved GH going the way of All My Children and One Life to Live? Or is General Hospital safe for now?

What do you think this means for the future of ABC, GH and GH showrunners? Is this business as usual or a meaningful shift in daytime? Share your comments below and come back to Soap Opera Spy for more ‘General Hospital’ news on the ABC daytime executive shakeup.

OK, wow. Belt-tightening and less soapy serials? You have another thing coming, if you plan on trying that nonsense! E-mails, Tweets, Fb posts. Whatever it takes not only to ensure GH’s safety, but to get AMC and OLTL back! Oh, Ok. Wait. They’re talking about soapy serials in prime time in that article. Oh, my heart almost stopped. We still have to let Ms. Campbell know who is boss (us!) and what we want (soaps!).

well she better leave the soap alone! I love my soaps and so do many, and i’m over all the stupid talk shows, cooking shows, blah blah, blah!

Perhaps they are struggling with viewers bc so many people boycotted them with their prime time soaps (dramas) and left their prime time bc of the loss of all our beloved soaps and the sucky daytime replacements they put on instead. I am still mad at them and my hubby, my daughter, my coworkers, and I do not watch any of that boring horrible stuff they put on in place of our beloved soaps. I guess they just don’t get the power of daytime soap watchers and if they cancel GH I believe it they can really kiss their rating bye bye bc I for one will not watch a damn thing on ABC.

Maybe they brought her in to do her job, not being on Twitter 247 pimping a certain actress ot fan base!

Heard recently that ABC is going to get rid of a lot of their shows. Viera’s talk show is leaving at the
end of April or first of May for starters. But have not heard of any nighttime shows, yert. Vera Newbold

Well, if you remember a few years back when they were thinking of cancelling GH there was a boycott of Disney and everything and everyone that they were about. It will happen again.

I guess start passing the word all over that they are planning on doing this-it will head them off before they do it. Im sure the advertisers for ABC, Disney dont want bad publicity…
