‘General Hospital’ News: Former Head Writer Ron Carlivati’s Accepts Writers Guild Award – Mentions Feud With Tony Geary

'General Hospital' News: Former Head Writer Ron Carlivati's Accepts Writers Guild Award - Mentions Feud With Tony GearyFormer ‘General Hospital’ head writer Ron Carlivati took the stage at the Writers Guild Awards to accept his award for Tony Geary’s storyline as Luke Spencer – the award was actually received for the episodes surrounding Luke’s childhood flashbacks.

‘General Hospital’ fans will recall there was a lot of controversy surrounding Geary’s final storyline before he retired from the ABC soap opera – the Fluke saga spanned nearly a year before finally coming to a close with the disassociative identity disorder.  After Tony’s exit he made it pretty clear that he was not a fan of his final storyline.  And, it wasn’t long after that Ron Carlivati was dismissed from his head-writing position at the daytime drama.

When Carlivati took the stage at the WGA’s, he used his speech as a vehicle to throw a little bit of shade at ‘General Hospital’ fan fave Geary.  Ironically, the same storyline that caused SO much drama behind the scenes at ‘GH’ is the same storyline that won Carlivati a Writers Guild Award.  Here’s what Ron had to say about Tony during his acceptance speech:

“On ‘General Hospital’, we told an original story about one of the most popular characters on daytime television.  At the time the actor who played him told me it was his favorite storyline in his entire 37 year run on the show.  Shortly after this however, he became disenchanted with my writing, and for some strange reason refused to acknowledge that we ever even met, referring to me in interviews only as  ‘the writer’.   Apparently, this is supposed to be some kind of insult, but I’m sure my fellow writers standing on the stage, and most of you in this room would agree, I can consider being called ‘a writer’ a badge of honor.  So thank you to him for that, and thank you to the writer’s guild for this.”
