As we had reported last week, Drake Hogestyn (John Black) will be missing in action from ‘Days Of Our Lives’ because he had a freak accident at his home back in May. The story we were told then, was that he had fallen from a tree on his own property and suffered from internal bleeding; this does not seem to be the case anymore. We now have received a conflicting story from his legal team.

Drake’s lawyers have finally come forward with an explanation for his absence. His legal team now says that Drake was injured on the set of ‘Days of Our Lives’ on May 5, 2016. He was performing a stunt that required him to jump through a door, but it “had not been properly set”. Drake ran at full speed and smashed through the door headfirst, resulting in severe head injuries. The actor was hospitalized, but is recovering now at his home in Malibu, with his wife Victoria.
Drake and Victoria Post were childhood sweethearts, who are now married and the parents of three daughters and one son. His son Ben, followed in his footsteps and portrayed Lucas Jones on ‘General Hospital’ in 2005-2006. He also played Harry Jackson on ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ in 2006.
Another interesting tidbit about Drake Hogestyn is that he is a practitioner of Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do, a trait he shares with the character he plays on Days. He is also a master of the Nunchaku, (the “nunchaku” is a traditional Okinawan martial arts weapon that consists of two sticks connected by a short chain or rope). This is also the weapon Bruce Lee is known for using in his movies.

Drake Hogestyn has been on Days since 1986, and is half of the fan favorite super couple, Jarlena: John Black and Marlena Evans. Although they are so popular, they have only won Soap Opera Digest’s “Favorite Couple” Award once, in 2005.
