‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) RUMORS: Jill Farren Phelps Contract Negotiations Not Going Well – JFP Leaving Soap?

If you would pay a dollar every time a “Y&R” fan has touted they wished executive producer, Jill Farren Phelps would leave the daytime soap, you’d easily have millions of dollars. Phelps is not a fan favorite. Many fans are on edge right now, knowing she is in the middle of contract negotiations. The rumor is it is not going as well as she had hoped. Is it possible that Sony could replace her as executive producer?
Phelps contract negotiations started a few months ago, according to Daytime Confidential. She took over the soap in 2012, winning multiple Emmy Award wins and an increase in ratings. Even so, the show’s fans have called for her firing because they claim she has ruined the show.
Under her contract, she has gone through a few writers. The newest head writer, Charles Pratt, is not doing as well as she predicted either. Since his storylines debuted, there has been a plane crash, the Underground collapsed, a serial killer, and a doppelganger mystery. And, he has only been writing for “Young and the Restless” for six months.
The show lost three talented actors, Michelle Stafford (Phyllis), Billy Miller (Billy), and Michael Muhney (Adam) since Phelps took over the show. Muhney and Stafford’s exit from the show was a big problem for many long-time fans. They didn’t see how the show could go on without Phyllis or Adam. They were not supporting roles on the show, the soap revolved around them for the most part.
In fact, the show said goodbye to Billy Miller and Michael Muhney in the same week. Phyllis and Adam were brilliantly recast with Gina Tognoni and Justin Hartley. Billy Miller was replaced by Burgess Jenkins. Many fans have felt he was not a good fit for the character, Billy.
Fans can’t help but speculate that Jill Farren Phelps could be fired after the network learned how unhappy their fans are with the show. Is it possible that they could replace her with someone the fans support? Is it possible that Charles Pratt could lose in contact next? The ratings stay up because the actors, well most of them are wonderful. Peter Bergman better get an award for his portrayal of Good and Evil Jack.
I don’t care for the new Billy (Burgess Jenkins). Billy Miller never should have left the show. He was a much better actor and I liked him a whole lot better than Burgess Jenkins (nothing personal) He was just a better actor. I don’t like the way that Eric Braeden (Victor) controls every aspect of the show. It’s almost as though no one else’s feelings matter on the show. I realize it’s just a show, but if the viewers opinions don’t matter, then there really isn’t a show anyway. Victor thinks he runs everything on the show. If that’s the case, the name of the program should be “THE VICTOR NEWMAN SHOW” He shows no respect for women on the show at all. He doesn’t approve of anything that Victoria does since she married Billy. Eric Braeden’s foul language on the show is not needed either. I think the way he talks to Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott is ridiculous. Victor thinks that when he speaks EVERYONE should jump.
The actors do an amazing job with what they are given in the scripts. it is the writers that have chosen to disregard history, make the newbies front and center and the veterans seem to be “also ran actors” used as filler rather than main story. Will not be sorry to see some fresh ideas from someone else. I lost respect for her when she helped either cancel or cripple several other soaps. The icing on the cake was the Michael/ Summer trite that was NEVER explained or proven. The rumor mill screamed for police involvement and no evidence ever came forth to prove the claim. Lost an excellent group of actors because of her.

This is ridiculous. I am so tired of listening of this constant whining of people. Every writer that comes in this show somehow “ruins it”. LML ruined the show, MAB ruined the show, JPF ruined the show. If the shows are constantly ruined why the hell do you bother to watch? Change the channel or get a real life! I watch the show regularly – there are things that I like, there are things that I don’t like but I am clever enough to know that I am not a person who has a right to judge other’s people work, especially those who do the soap business or storytelling for half a decade.

People who are long time fans “bother to watch” because if we did not, this show would have probably gone off of the air a long time ago. So, if you work for CBS, how about using your energy to improve this show, and listen to your fans, instead of making simple comments that only show your lack of comittment to this show. People like you seem to forget that viewers keep shows on the air, and ratings up. There is not one show on television that can ever survive if people do not watch. We are all seeking quality programming, and storylines, like we used to get in the past. If you do not like the feedback of the many fans of this show, then maybe you should be the one to keep it moving! Our comments, complaints and criticisms are here to stay until someone is smart enough to improve this show!
Jill Farren Phelps better get fired! Phelps has ruined the show. I will never forget that Phelps created the Delia Fies storyline and let Michael Muhney go. What a worthleds piece of trash she is. Justin Hartley is a good guy but the majority of fans want Michael Muhmey to return. In addition, Phelps hired Chuck Prstt and he has eritten the worst storylines I’ve ever read about and I see and read so many negative comments, I do NOT understand the ratings. Also Phelps fired Cady McClain ny email (irresponsible!) and let Jessica Collins go because Jessica could not continue to do the storylines snd TPTB would not negotiate with Jessica.. Actually TPTB need to fire Phelps, Pratt.and McDaniel. McDaniel tekeaded the false rumors regarding Michael Muhney throigh her husband who works at TMZ. I have mo tespect for a person who deliberately plants lies to hirt another. In this case Michael Muhney and his family.
AMEN, AMEN, AMEN, AMEN. They kept the character of Summer, whom no one likes, and lost great performers in the process. This actress must be related to someone on the show, because there is no reason she should still be on this show! She is horrible!

Please please let it be true. They have got to get rid of her and Chuck. This story line is utterly ridiculous, boring and just plain dumb. I cannot wait for it to end.
Michaels cancer storyline could have been so much better. instead they focused on him not being able to satisfy his wife. Please. They were one of the stronger couples on the show and they relegated their marriage to being all about getting it on. Ughh.

it’s makes me sick it’s not one couple happy on that show what ever happened to couples having date nights and romance and he even breaking up families of people with small kids I watch that show for years because of cane& lily now he messed them up to it’s really hard to watch y&r going down hill I have ten family members said that refuses to watch any more because of what he dwhat he is doing to lily and cane and there kids
I agree with you. Divorce, hatred, jealousy, infidelity, and the likes is overkill on this show. There are people who are in happy relationships and marriages, but this show continues to portray the negative, and showcase women as weak and desperate. I have had enough as well…
This show has gone so far downhill, it is a chore to watch. JFP should have never been hired, and she was given multiple Emmys, not won them. Not one story on this show was Emmy worthy, but I believe this show was given awards to quiet the fans. NOT! The writing is ridiculous and unrealistic, the paired couples have no chemistry, and the show is frankly, a big BORE. The performers are outstanding as always, but lousy scripts continue to make this show a bunch of crap. I do not share in the excitement of Gina Tognoni, or the new Adam. The character of Adam has been totally revamped, making him unrecognizable, and this actor lacks the realism and sensitivity that Michael Muhney had. This new Billy will never be Billy Miller, hence the character of Billy has been ruined as well. Bring back Michael Muhney, Billy Miller, Michelle Stafford. Bring back the characters of Tucker McCall, Harmony, Sophia, Malcolm (not Shemar Moore), Daniel, Heather, Ricky, Daisy, Drucilla, Avery, and John Abbott. Get rid of Sharon, Marissa, Noah, Kevin, Sage, Dylan, Joe, Stitch, Abby, and Gwen. These people are fillers, and are so pointless. I am a 25 year veteran of watching this soap, and I am disgusted at how it has turned out. Please fire everyone on staff, and get some people in with some fresh, new, exciting, ideas…
I think that Jill Farren Phelps is a good Executive Producer when her hands are tied. I believe Sony should step in and bring Alden/Smith back to the show. Chuck should not be anywhere near Y&R with a pen. A complete joke with regurgitated storytelling from prior years. Lets get back to the basics with big payoffs. Lets have 3-4 major storylines with a beginning, middle, and end. These disastrous plots during rating periods are nothing more than a smoke screen for trash outside the ratings sweep months. I have watched Y&R since 1985 and now I read about it more than I watch it. Depressing at times, but glad to have all those hours of TV back for other things if this is the true direction of the show. Something needs to be done fast. I am not sure what that is, but I do believe if Jill Farren Phelps has her hands tied in an Executive Producer way she can be good for the budget and daily runnings of the show. She has updated the look, but I do prefer the darker looking sets. The music change was a bit jarring at first, but over time you get use to it. Unlike these awful storylines… JMHO…
