'The Young and The Restless' (Y&R) News: Cady McClain Helps Raise Domestic Violence Awareness – Receives Certificate of Recognition From May of Los Angeles“The Young and the Restless” and “All My Children” alum Cady McClain received a Certificate of Recognition for her work raising awareness of domestic violence. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Police Chief Charlie Beck were on hand for the ceremony.

Members of the Los Angeles Domestic Violence Task Force were also there for the presentation in downtown Los Angeles on October 13 – which just happened to be Cady’s birthday. She was joined by her husband – actor, director and producer Jon Lindstrom – to honor those who work in the field [of domestic violence] and bring more awareness to the issue. In addition to raising awareness of domestic abuse the ceremony also focused on elder abuse.

Cady McClain introduced Mayor Garcetti and Police Chief Beck before the ceremony began. Photos of the day – which began at 9 am – were posted to McClain’s Facebook page. “What an amazing morning. I can’t think of a better way to have spent my birthday! They even had a certificate and a cake for me” revealed to fans.

The actress and director shared memories of her abusive childhood in her autobiography “Murdering My Youth: A Memoir.” In the book Cady McClain details her experience growing up with an alcoholic father and an emotionally and verbally abusive mother. Cady is a survivor – and her book is beautifully written. She is an inspiration to all who have gone through the same experiences and will continue to champion domestic violence awareness. Those that have read the book say that it has helped them deal with having grown up abused, overlooked, mistreated, misunderstood and forced to grow up to quickly.

Thank you Cady for your tireless support and for being the voice of those who are too scared to step out of the shadows. She very generously shares her time and talents – and her birthday – to ensure that what happened to her does not continue to happen.
