‘The Young And The Restless’ News: ‘Y&R’ Soap Remains Number One Daytime Drama For 27 Years Straight

“The Young and the Restless” rose to the top of the Nielsen rating charts on December 26, 1988, according to Soap Opera Network. Angelica McDaniel, Executive Vice President of Daytime Programing for CBS, announced that CBS was extremely proud of the work the show has put out the last 27 years. “Spending a few seasons in the number-one slot is a remarkable achievement. To accomplish number one for 27 years deserves a Hall of Fame status,” McDaniel stated.
Angelica stated the success of the show is a testament of the hard work of the head writer, Chuck Pratt and the executive producer, Jill Farren Phelps. She noted the production, crew, and actors worked long hard hours in order to be able to bring the fans an hour-long program five days a week, 52 weeks a year.
On December 10, Eric Braeden [Victor Newman] took to Twitter to brag that the cast, crew, and production taped a record-breaking 500 pages of the script last week. Eric noted, “If that’s not a record, I don’t know who would qualify to come close to that.”
McDaniel praised the fans and stated without the fans they wouldn’t have a show. She stated the “The Young and the Restless” has devoted fans who will stand by the show in good times and bad. She noted that many fans had watched the soap since the early 70s and thanked them for their never-ending support.
Many fans have been pretty upset about the storylines repeating themselves, and the treatment of some of the favorite characters. The head scribe, Chuck Pratt promised that he will bring the characters back to true form; he asked the fans to remain patient.
Even though many fans have been vocal about being upset with the current storylines, “Y&R” continues to be on top of the rating charts in every demographic. In fact, the soap opera ratings have barely dipped, and its audience is still almost five million per day.

There are hundreds of fans that watch the weekly ratings and its not true that the ratings have barely dipped. Three weeks in a row Y&R may continue to be in first place but they have lost fans in the ratings. The stories are taking a toll on lots of fans and continue to do so. This whitewashing of how the fans stick through thick and thin is just a bald faced lie. Stop speaking for the masses.
