‘The Young and the Restless’ Interview: Steve Burton Dishes On His YR Character Dylan McAvoy, His Goodbye To Avery, And Sharon’s Pregnancy

'The Young and the Restless' Interview: Steve Burton Dishes On His YR Character Dylan McAvoy, Saying Goodbye To Avery, And Sharon’s Pregnancy“General Hospital” fans were devastated when Steve Burton (Jason Morgan), abandoned ship and left the ABC soap opera to star on “The Young and the Restless” as Dylan McAvoy – the son of Nikki Newman and Paul Williams. When Steve first arrive on Y&R, he was off to a bumpy start and his character wasn’t making a resounding impact on fans. Recently new head-writer Chuck Pratt has taken the character of Dylan in an entirely new direction – and Burton’s new storylines are getting rave reviews.

Recently the Y&R writers paired Burton up with Sharon Case’s character Sharon Newman, and the couple is now expecting a baby together. Before Dylan could really move in with Sharon, he had to say goodbye to his long-time love interest Avery, and the actress that portrayed her – Jessica Collins. “The Young and the Restless” fans are still buzzing about Steve and Avery’s heart-wrenching goodbye scenes, and Steve sat down with Michael Fairman for an exclusive interview to discuss the goodbyes, and moving on with Sharon Newman.

When asked about filming the scenes between himself and Jessica Collins before her exit, Steve revealed that they were much more emotional than he had anticipated – after all he had worked side-by-side with Jessica on the soap opera for over four years.

Steve dished: “It’s weird. The person is leaving and your relationship on the show is ending. I learned the dialogue, of course, but I don’t really want to say it out loud till we tape. Everybody knew it was going to be emotional. Christian LeBlanc (Michael) and all of her friends were there, and hanging around the set. Those scenes you have to really hold back more on than cry. That is what we really should be doing all the time. For me, the more difficult one was the moment in the hotel room with Joe (Scott Elrod), and Dylan kind of said goodbye to her there, first.”

Now that Avery is out of the picture, Dylan can start a new life with the mother of his unborn child Sharon Newman. Of course, it’s Sharon Newman – so it definitely won’t be a smooth or uneventful ride. According to Steve Burton, here are some Y&R spoilers we can expect to see coming up on the daytime drama for the new couple, “Dylan wants a kid so bad. He wants a family. That’s the one thing he wants, and the normalcy of having a family. And with him being off to war, and coming back and having issues with how Dylan and Avery’s relationship was, and they couldn’t really get together, that was hard on him. Joe came back into the picture, and there was never any amount of serenity at all in Dylan’s life, including finding out who his biological parents were – all of the things that have happened in his life in the last two and half years. Sharon’s pregnant now, and we are going to go down that road, and let’s see what happens!”

Were you as moved as we were by Steve and Jessica’s goodbye scenes? Do you think that Sharon and Dylan will last, and raise their new family together? Or is there a ton more drama in store for them?

I would love for them to be happy for a little while at least together. Let the dream be from outside their relationship.
