‘The Bold And The Beautiful’ Interview: John McCook Discusses Patriarch Eric Forrester – His Early Career On ‘Y&R’

'The Bold And The Beautiful' Interview: John McCook Discusses Patriarch Eric Forrester - His Early Career On 'Y&R'“Bold and The Beautiful” (B&B) star John McCook has absolutely no regrets when it comes to the path in life that he has chosen. One simple world has given the actor a career in soap operas spanning four decades.  Before John McCook was “Bold and Beautiful” patriarch Eric Forrester he took on nearly every acting job he was offered. Because McCook took chances he doesn’t look back and think about the role that got away. “I never turned down anything! Never once,” the actor revealed in an interview with Soaps In Depth. And it was that work ethic that got John where he is today.

Before McCook was offered a contract with Warner Brothers he traveled the summer stock circuit along the East Coast. John took on new roles as often as possible, and enjoyed going on stage and trying out new characters. It was an excellent learning experience and prepared him for roles on television.

When “The Young and the Restless” Bill Bell came knocking on McCook’s door and offered him the role of Lance Prentice in 1975 John once again thought why not. The role made him a fixture on daytime television and established him with the Bell-Phillip Productions team. And John McCook believes if he hadn’t taken a chance on the role of Lance Prentice on “Y&R” he wouldn’t have had the opportunity to portray Eric Forrester on “B&B” – and the actor is happy to have been a part of the long-running soap opera.

And not only is John proud of his career accomplishments, he’s also extremely proud of his personal accomplishments, too. He doesn’t regret leaving Broadway behind and pursuing a career in television. John does keep track of his old theater pals but he wouldn’t trade his life for theirs. John is especially proud that he has been married to his wife Laurette Spang for 35 years – an actress best known for her work on the original “Battlestar Galactica.” The couple’s youngest daughter Molly is following in her parent’s footsteps and is a talented actress and singer.

“Bold and the Beautiful” fans can expect to see John McCook as Eric Forrester for many years to come. He is happy and enjoys his work. But you do wonder, if asked to take on another role would John say yes just as he did 40 years ago?
