'General Hospital' and 'Days of our Lives' Wally Kurth Talks Playing Two Roles, His Music and More in Exclusive SOS Interview

Wally Kurth is a hard-working actor and very busy, he is currently involved in two major storylines on two soaps.  Wally stars as Justin Kiriakis On Days of Our lives and Ned Ashton on General Hospital. Wally was kind enough to take some time out of his busy schedule to speak to Soap Opera Spy (SOS) about what it is like playing two characters, his music and more.

SOS:  Which character are you more like in real life Justin or Ned?

Wally:  “I would honestly say, I have a majority of traits of both characters. I can understand each of them and empathize.”

SOS: How difficult is it to juggle both Soaps: General Hospital and Days of our Lives?

Wally: “So far, it’s been working. we have lots of breaks nowadays, so i’ve found that when i’m off on one show, I’ll be busy on another. at this stage, Days works around GH schedule since I was doing GH pretty regularly leading up to last September when I began working again on Days. I had been off Days for 10 months before I came back. if you remember, Sonny and Will’s wedding was my last day there.”

SOS: Are you still doing music gigs? What does your music calendar look like?

Wally: “I’m not. Maybe I’ll pick that up again, now that I’m back on TV.”

SOS: On Days of Our Lives, how does Sonny’s terrible attack effect you as a father?

Wally: “Obviously, that situation, where your child is experiencing a life threatening injury, is the worst a parent can suffer.”

SOS: Fans have been confused not to say upset about the revelation that Fluke is Luke Spencer under some sort of mind control courtesey off Helena Cassadine. Without giving away the plot can you reassure fans that there will be much more to this story?

Wally: “Honestly, I don’t know how this story will end. As a viewer, I suspect this current “alter ego/dark side” explanation is the last one. But i’m only guessing. we don’t get the whole scripts. We only get our scenes, so I can’t read any further ahead then what you see on the air.”

SOS: If you could take one movie and play the main character which one would it be and why
?

Wally: “Without naming one, I would love to do a Western. Just to go there, on a horse, to a distant time.”

SOS: On General Hospital who do you see Ned with Olivia or Alexis?

Wally: “I think it’s obvious that Ned is meant for Olivia. Can you say, Julexis Army?”

SOS: What musicians influenced your musical career?

Wally: “Oh, too many to name. Growing up, I loved the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkle, Marshall Tucker Band! later Stevie Wonder really influenced me.”

SOS: How did you get in to acting?

Wally: “Being the youngest in a family of Five, I was always trying to get attention. I think it became a necessity to make a “scene”, in a good way! I was fortunate to play in OLIVER when I was 11. That performance was very impactful.. I got the bug.”

SOS: Who is your favorite co-star of all time?

Wally: “What, are you trying to make my life miserable? I can’t possibly answer that!”

SOS: Love your son’s name. Brogan, family name?

Wally: “No, we found it in a baby name book.”

SOS: On General Hospital are your scenes with Lisa as fun as they look?

Wally:
“I sometimes think we’re having more fun doing than when I see it on the air. I’ve been lucky. I really like the storyline and love working with Lisa.”

SOS: You’re a singer, actor, author, family man. How do you balance it all?

Wally:“Ha! everyone in this world is busy. I’m just another one. We have a lot of time off now on Soaps, so my days are free to get everything done. Family man, btw, is what keeps me busiest!”

SOS: Would he like to portray Eddie Main again, say at the Nurses Ball
.

Wally: “You mean don the black leather pants? Of course, with the proper set up. Didn’t they introduce me last year as “Eddie Maine?”

SOS: Is it hard transitioning between being “Ned” on GH to being “Justin” on Days since they are such different characters

Wally: “It does take a little adjusting actually. They are more different than I imagined before I was asked to play them concurrently. But, having said that, I think playing them both are making me a better actor. I seem to be more creative and … more thorough … and I work harder as a result.”

SOS: If you could go on tour with any band would you?

Wally: “hmmm. I’m not sure this family man could get away. And, I love my own bed!”
