Billy Flynn made his The Young and the Restless debut as Cane Ashby (aka Aristotle Dumas) in June 2025.
The popular daytime star played the part of Chad DiMera on Days of Our Lives for over a decade.
DOOL fans were devasted when the fan fave announced he was offered a job at Y&R and would be leaving the NBC soap indefinitely.
Y&R Star Billy Flynn Discusses Days Exit
After twelve years at Days of Our Lives, the daytime star felt like he deserved more screentime and bigger storylines.
Ironically, Days fans agreed and had been complaining on social media for months that they wanted to see more of Flynn’s character.
Since DOOL wasn’t giving him much action, Flynn made the decision to sign a contract at Y&R.
The Cane Ashby portrayer recently joined his co-stars Greg Rikaart and Rebecca Budig on their podcast.
Flynn was open about his decision to leave DOOL after so many years and explained, “The writing for my character kind of got a little bit stagnant, and they just weren’t using me, I guess, as much as I thought they should, or I wanted. I wasn’t doing what I thought I could do at the show.”
Will We Start Seeing Less Of Cane
During his time on the Soapy podcast, the Y&R star also revealed that it was headwriter Joshua Griffith that scored him the role and was the mastermind behind bringing Cane Ashby back.
Last month, it was announced the Griffith was stepping down from headwriter at The Young and the Restless and the soap was going in a different direction with a new writer.
Hopefully that doesn’t mean we will be seeing less of Cane in Genoa City moving forward.
