Will Elliott Stabler Return To Law & Order Season 28

The Law & Order SVU Season 28 premiere is right around the corner and viewers are hopeful that Elliot Stabler will pop back up.

Rumors have been running rampant that Christopher Meloni is returning to the popular series, and there might be some truth to them this time.  Keep reading for all of the details!

When Did Elliot Stabler Leave SVU

Christopher Meloni was a fan fave on Law & Order SVU for over a decade and fans were devastated in 2011 when he announced the was leaving the show.

Elliot Stabler’s final appearance aired in  Season 12, Episode 24, titled “Smoked”  Then 10 years later, Meloni finally returned to the franchise (but in a different series).

Christopher Meloni returned in the Law & Order spinoff Organized Crime in April of 2021.  The series ran for five seasons, a few months ago NBC cancelled the series.

Mariska Hargitay Teases Possible Elliot Stabler Return

After news broke that Christopher Meloni’s spinoff had been axed, Mariska Hargitay dished in an interview that she hoped Stabler would return.

While Hargitay was chatting about Season 28’s return, she revealed that she was hopeful the writers would bring back Elliot Stabler.

She told Deadline, “That is a very heartening thing for both of us, that our relationship was so iconic culturally, and that Benson and Stabler still resonates is deeply meaningful to me, and Chris and I…are very, very close.”

Christopher Meloni’s New TV Show

Christopher Meloni just finished filming the first season of a new TV show he signed on to called “The Land.”

Meloni will play the part of a NFL football coach, alongside some big names like Shameless star William H Macy and This Is Us’ Mandy Moore.

The Land will be airing on streaming app Hulu, and has been given a 2027 premiere date.  The nice thing about series on streaming apps, is it’s easy for actors to pull double duty and appear on other TV shows.

If Christopher Meloni is interested in returning, he can easily work on both shows without many scheduling conflicts.
