Why Meghan Markle’s Latest Slip-Up Could Spark a Fresh Royal Showdown

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently took the first substantial step to mending the long-running rift with the Royal Family, when they visited King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House with their children in tow.

While we can’t say for sure how much the ice has thawed from this one visit, it’s still significant in that it allowed King Charles to meet his American-based grandchildren for the first time since 2022. However, per an insider, another blunder from Meghan Markle could set things off again.

Palace Could Wage War Against the Sussexes Over This Title

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle packed up and moved to America, one of the rules they were told to abide by was that they couldn’t use the ‘HRH’ address anymore.

Of course, the HRH standing for His/Her Royal Highness. This address is clearly dedicated to senior working royals.

Even though Harry has not made the public blunder of returning to his old address, the same could not be said for Meghan.

Everything came to a head when businesswoman and podcaster Jamie Kern Lima shared a picture of Meghan’s As Ever basket on Instagram.

Along with the carefully curated home products was a tag that read “HRH The Duchess of Sussex.”

For someone who was told not to use this specific form of address in public to go ahead and use it in branded products can be interpreted as more than overstepping the line.

“These three letters have reignited tensions at the very heart of the monarchy,” Royal expert Stéphane Bern told Paris Match.

Using the titles goes directly against the Sandringham agreement, where Queen Elizabeth and then-Prince Charles made Prince Harry and Meghan Markle pledge to stop using the titles.

A statement on the Royal website confirmed this at the time, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family.”
