On social media, Tyler Robinson, the alleged killer of Charlie Kirk trends again after the sudden resignation of Sheriff Nate Brooksby.

True crime followers get a bit hot under the collar about it, and reports emerge about a “mismatch.” Read on for more details.

A New ATF Headline Confuses Some People

On more than one occasion, the word “misinformation” arrived. One of those observations came when @allaboutthetea shared the well-documented ATF report about a bullet.

True crime followers were quick to pick up that a headline shared on social media seemed to suggest to some folks that the bullet came from a different gun than the one tied to Tyler Robinson.

The Daily Mail stood accused of a misleading title:

Ballistics expert reveals real reason bullet used to kill Charlie Kirk did not conclusively match rifle allegedly used by suspect Tyler Robinson

Sounding rather angry one critic wrote, “This is misinformation, daily mail posted false article…They imply the bullet didn’t match the suspect’s rifle, but THE PUBLIC COURT FILING you are referring to legitimately states: “the bullet was too fragmented to match any weapon.”

Splitting Hairs?

You might think that critics are splitting hairs, but it certainly found a lot of responses. That’s because the ATF report doesn’t say the bullet came from a different gun. It says the fragment recovered during autopsy was too damaged to match to any specific firearm.

Notably, that “inconclusive” finding opens up a huge chink in the prosecution’s case. And you can bet your last dollar the defense team will use it every which way they can.

Expect the defense to argue the state can’t physically link the bullet to Tyler Robinson. And most likely, the prosecution argues that the fragmented bullet simply proves lethal intent with the level of violence it inflicted.

In Other News

This week, the news arrived that the FBI stepped up and decided that running a second analysis might be a great idea. Per CBS News. the “FBI opted to run a second analysis using “lead composition” testing to bypass the damaged rifling marks.”

That didn’t go down well because some true crime observers felt it was old tech that didn’t fit a crime with a potential death penalty. Historically, they weren’t all that accurate anyway. Nevertheless, the prosection anticpates the FBI testing might support initial conclusions.

Of course, the sudden resignation of Sheriff Nate Brooksby, deeply involved in the investigation, only increased the impression that the state’s case shows some cracks.

The Case Is Showing Cracks?

There are of course, other things that make armchair sleuths wonder about the facts in the case of Charlie Kirk’s assassination. For example, rumors arrived of a paved-over crime scene. Then, K9 units allegedly couldn’t even find the weapon on the initial sweep.

It should be noted that the Sheriff’s Office insists Brooksby’s exit had nothing to do with botches in investigation. However, many people don’t buy into that. After all, the timing of it and the ballistics questions raise red flags.

Going Forward & Delays

The prosecution seems to have quite a lot of evidence that they can use even without the bullet. Court documents suggest that they have DNA on the trigger and text messages as proof of guilt.

Already, the case faces delays, and in the light of the bullet report, the defense team argues against rushing to judgment. When it comes to reasonable doubt, they have a point. After “inconclusive” findings don’t really cut it. Or at least they shouldn’t. But juries can go either way on that.

Viewers React

Many people believe the theory that somehow, the assassination was a psy-op. Unfortunately, the latest news only makes many true crime followers lean into it even more.

One commenter on Instagram wrote:

How da fuck y’all gone make a scape go[a]t and then don’t even plant the proper evidence for the sacrificial lamb to be sacrificed.

Here are a few more responses from the discussion:

  • At this point who is surprised? We have heard nothing at all about an investigation into the death of Kirk almost as if it weren’t as much of a concern as they pretended it to be.
  • It’s a conspiracy… a martyr to distract our attention.
  • Candace Owen’s saying a lot about this – FBI…shouldn’t be involved… the ATF is using testing that’s been not used in over 20 years due to innocent people being convicted wrongly!
