The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County star McCall DaPron has many followers on Instagram, and the social media influencer upset a lot of folks with her Halloween photo this year.

What Upset Followers?

Mayci Neeley’s sister and her husband, Alex DaPron, live in Orange County, California, and they raise four kids: Monroe, McCartney, Truman, and Banks. For Halloween, the couple and all of the kids participated in what some folks on Instagram called an offensive theme.

People Magazine reported that The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County star showed her dressed as Jackie Kennedy “from the day of the former president’s infamous assassination.”

The Whole Family Was Involved

Alex dressed as the late John F. Kennedy, and McCartney, 8, pretended to be Jackie and John’s daughter Caroline. Banks, 2, was meant to portray John F. Kennedy Jr. Meanwhile, the other two kids, Monroe and Truman, were FBI agents.

The moment ignited a lot of backlash for the Hulu star, to the point where she shut down comments. Before that, the outlet captured some of them. One person had written, “[You’re] dressing up as a woman on the scariest day of her life…”

Others said things like, “Appallingly distasteful.” Perhaps the locked comments came because responses were many and very critical of the TV star. It’s not the first time that someone upset folks over Halloween.

The outlet mentioned that last year, “Julia Fox was embroiled in a similar controversy after she also dressed as Jackie Kennedy on the day of her husband’s assassination.” But the version by Fox had some gruesome details with “blood splatter on Jackie’s iconic pink suit.”

DaPron’s Backstory

As The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County on Hulu hasn’t aired yet, you might not know that McCall DaPron started out her adult life as a Division I tennis player while studying history at Brigham Young University (BYU) and UCLA.

Perhaps that’s why she chose a historical pic for Halloween. But she’s not responding to questions, so fans don’t know for sure.

Per the Fandom Wiki for the show, when the spinoff announcement was made, folks complained that some of the cast members weren’t Mormon, which seemed a bit odd given the name of the show.

It was McCall DaPron who clapped back on Instagram, saying that the majority of them were practicing Mormons or previously were associated. And she also noted that she belongs “to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”

Religious Controversies

Controversy over the religious makeup of the cast was reported by Variety back in May, and they cited producer Jeff Jenkins as saying that “the O.C. cast is actually more devout than the stars of the Utah-based mother ship.”

McCall DaPron seems to have rocked the boat well ahead of the first season premiere. The new spinoff premieres on November 12 on Hulu and it consists of 10 episodes.
