Former President Obama shouted out reality TV and specifically mentioned Bravo’s Real Housewives franchise this week. It came during his campaigning for Jon Ossoff and Keisha Lance Bottoms, and fans of the show say they feel vindicated for watching it.
Shouting Out Real Housewives
The speech was a long one, and Obama accused the Trump administration of “throwing distractions” out there. But then he compared it all to a TV show. He said, “They enjoy insulting and dividing instead of bringing people together to solve problems.”
Next, he reminded the gathering, “And look, I know we’re in Atlanta and I want y’all to know Michelle has love for the Real Housewives, but we got to keep reality TV on Bravo.”
He added, “Leave it to the professionals. We don’t need it in the White House. We don’t need it in the governor’s mansion.”
Fans React
When the clip was shared on Reddit, plenty of people, irrespective of political leanings, loved the shout-out. One of them wrote:
Sometimes when I get side eyed from people for watching HWs, or “how could you watch that sh*t?” coming from a condescending place, I remember a handful of amazing people who also take a break from life’s seriousness with all these messy women across the franchises. I mean, are we in bad company with Mrs. Obama who also finds lines like “Just because you strip out of a nurse’s outfit does not make you a nurse” entertaining as all hell?
