During the Christmas season of 2023, a senseless and tragic true crime ended up with the murder of a mom of four kids, named Tamanika Woods. It all went down in a McDonald’s in Atlanta, and highlights the senseless escalation of violence over trivial matters. Read on for more details.
A Terrible End To A Trivial Matter
When Jesse Weber discussed what went down on Law&Crime Network on YouTube this week, the bottom line seemed to be a senseless death over missing food from an order.
Jesse reviewed the events as they happened and showed frantic 911 calls, police body camera footage, and the interrogation of a young woman who pulled the trigger.
After all the chaos, police said that 19-year-old T’Niya Evans pulled a gun inside the restaurant. Next, she fired a shot that hit Tamanika Woods in the chest.
How It Started
Apparently, the family arrived via the drive-thru but didn’t get all of their order, so Tamanika Woods went inside to have it out at the cashier’s desk. Apparently, the mix-up involved “burgers” and “nuggets.”

Witnesses who saw it go down claimed that Woods seemed upset that the cashier took a bit of heat. So, defending her, words started flying. But then it turned next level, after some pushing and shoving. T’Niya Evans simply shot Tamanika. And, it was all captured on surveillance video.
The Hero
Luckily, a hero in the form of a random male customer prevented the situation from escalating. He grabbed Evans and held her tight until the cops arrived. Jesse added that during the cops’ arrival, things were absolute chaos.
Bodycam footage showed someone had been doing CPR on Woods and everyone wanted to say something at the same time. Before that, another customer called 911 and told the dispatcher she’d been “shot in the heart.”
Chaos & the 911 Call
Actually, the 911 call wasn’t easy to follow, but what true crime viewers got was he explained that Tamanika and her family “they come through the drive, we come in there with a gun.” He sounded frustrated, like he couldn’t believe what he just saw.
Meanwhile, another witness in the playback footage seemed competely stunned, saying, “This is over food alone.”
The mom of Evans caused loads of commotion as well, demanding that the man who disarmed her daughter should be arrested! After sorting out who was who, in the chaotic McDonald’s scene, cops took Evans and two of her sisters downtown for questioning.
Down At The Police Station
Initally, the police officers left Evans alone for quite some time so she could collect her thoughts. Once, the camera showed her as she shuffled off in leg irons to the bathroom.
When detectives finally went in, after questioning the other sisters, they explained to Evans that Woods had passed away from the gunshot.
During the interview, one officer said, “unfortunately today that girl, she deceased at the hospital.” Not messing about with remorse or confessing, T’Niya Evans asked for a lawyer. So, they charged her with murder and stopped the interview.
Pleading Not Gullty
Discussing the incredible violence levels over such a trivial beginning, Atlanta Homicide Major Peter Malecki later said:
one of the leading motives in our homicides is escalating disputes. So something that should just be a simple argument, it turns physical and then people are so quick to resort to gun violence.

Initially, in court, Evans pleaded not guilty. However, Jesse explained that later, her lawyer later worked out a deal. Because of that, she pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, and a firearms charge. Just as well, because it made the felony murder charge disappear.
The Sentence
Still, the judge wasn’t in a forgiving mood. So, she ended up sentenced to 25 years in prison in November 2024. Twenty years related to the manslaughter and assault, and the other five was tacked on for the gun charge.
Actually, it all seems so tragic and not just because a mom lost her life at the age of 30. After all, a 19-year-old threw her life away and now spends decades locked up.
Viewers React
In the comments on the YouTube video about the McDonald’s shooting, plenty of true crime viewers went in to have their say. In fact, the comments streamed in and it looks like this is going viral. One person opined, “That man at McDonald’s who disarmed and held her until police arrived is a hero.”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- Your daughter just caught a body but you want the guy that stopped her with the gun to get arrested? Arrest the mother too man.
- My heart hurts so much for those 4 children left without a mother.
- She shot and killed someone, and showed zero remorse. That speaks volumes.
