Stefon Diggs appeared in a Massachusetts courtroom on February 13, where he faced some very serious allegations. The New England Patriots wide receiver arrived at the Dedham District Court just days after his team lost Super Bowl LX to the Seahawks. Read on for more details about his charges.
The Charges
Diggs is charged with felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault. Plus, for good measure, prosecutors threw in battery charges as well. If you don’t know, the allegations arrived after an incident at his home in December 2025. And, they involved his former private chef, Mila Adams.
Well, the hearing was all over in a matter of minutes, and according to the LA Times, Diggs “pleaded not guilty to felony strangulation and other criminal charges in connection with an alleged dispute with his private chef.”

Diggs didn’t say anything, leaving the talking to his attorney. In the end, the judge released him on his own recognizance. However, it came with provisions. He has to stay away from other witnesses and the complainant, Mila Adams.
The Complaint Over Unpaid Wages
When Mila first made the complaint, she claimed that an argument started over unpaid wages. The duo were at his home when it went down, and she claimed the NFL star hit her in the face. Plus, she alleged that Stefon Diggs tried choking her with his arm.
Naturally, his defense team isn’t buying into that story. So, the lawyer suggested that the story was an invention because the chef was worried about losing their job. Next, they alleged that texts in their possession will prove that she’s telling lies.
The Stakes Are High
Obviously, for Diggs, the stakes seem rather high. That’s because felony strangulation in Massachusetts carries a heavy penalty of up to five years in state prison and a $5,000 fine. Then, if found guilty, the misdemeanor assault charge could land him behind bars for two and a half years. Additionally, if found guilty, Stefon might be required to attend an intense 40-week abuse education program.
At the moment, as the case goes to trial, it could take some time. Adams spoke with the media after court, insisting that a payoff settlement isn’t really her aim in laying charges. Instead, she said she just wants to see the legal process through.
On the other hand, Diggs’ attorney, told reporters his client’s innocent. Confident, he expects that evidence will clear his client’s name once the full story comes out.
A New Defense Lawyer
Interestingly, Stefon Diggs hired a new defense lawyer, Sara Silva, soon before the hearing. The court scheduled the next pretrial hearing for April 1, 2026. For now, Diggs is free to go, but, no doubt, the case sits on his mind during the offseason.
