The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys, a series following a Missouri ranching family, features patriarch Steven “Steve” McBee Sr., who later faced charges related to a federal crop insurance fraud scheme. This week, the news arrived that he’s been sentenced to serve prison time. Read on for more details.

The Crime & The Time

Fans of The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys heard in November last year that Steve McBee was in trouble with the law. At the time, he pleaded guilty to fraud committed between 2018 and 2020. The reality TV star, who appeared on Season 1 on the USA Network which later moved to Bravo, pleaded guilty.

The crime involved allegations that he understated his crops and claimed damages and losses from federal insurance for rain and hail. In fact, the amount of benefits that he received totaled $3,158,923. He agreed to pay that back and waited for his sentencing.

When the news arrived via People Magazine this week that he had been sentenced, he was ordered to pay restitution of “$4,022,124.” Plus, he will serve time behind bars.

The Prison Sentence Time

Although he is about to start serving time behind bars, Steve McBee got off lighter than expected. Initially, it was feared that the reality TV star might end up with up to 30 years behind bars. However, the judge sentenced him to serve two years in prison with another two years of “supervised release.”

Well, Steve already missed out on Season 2 of the show, and he won’t be in it for a while now. In fact, he won’t be around for Christmas either. The court ordered that he report for his term on December 1. True crime really doesn’t pay, even if you’re a reality TV star, it seems.

Fans React To Jail For The TV Star

On the show, fans knew that there were not just family clashes, but also that they struggled with finances. Well, the show apparently goes on without Steve, and right now, he prepares to spend time well away from the camera.

When the news that he would face a prison term arrived on YouTube, one viewer said, “What is it with Bravo they always seem to find crooks to appear on their shows so NASTY.”

Others were not shocked at all and felt that prison time was inevitable. After all, he pleaded guilty, thereby admitting “he’s a criminal.” And nobody was bothered that he could have ended up inside for three decades. In fact, judging by those comments, it seems Steve McBee is fortunate that he won’t spend more time behind bars.
