Princess Catherine and her daughter, Princess Charlotte, both enjoy ball sports, and ahead of the weekend, Prince William’s wife hosted a gathering for the Women’s Rugby World Cup winners. If you don’t know, the Princess of Wales is a Patron of the Rugby Football Union (RFU).

Celebrating Women In Sport

Catherine took to the @princeandprincessofwales Instagram account and shared some photos from the event. As usual, she managed to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. Plus, one photo showed her standing next to a nice big trophy.

Fans React In The Comments

Plenty of her 17 million followers wanted to say something. One of them wrote, “How beautiful, radiant and vibrant she looks!!!”

Meanwhile others just loved that she interacted with such talented people. Here are a few more responses from the discussion:

  • Isn’t that wonderful. So pleased. Love the outfit. You look stunning Princess Catherine. What a talented lot of women!
  • Beautiful reception and The Princess looked radiant and gorgeous.
  • A whole room of role models.
  • What a treat they had seeing you support the winners. Happy 2026 Princess Catherine…love from Ontario, Canada.

What Did Catherine Say?

While it wasn’t shown in the Instagram post, the Daily Mail UK mentioned that Princess Catherine did speak at the reception. The outlet quoted her as saying that her daughter, Charlotte, plays the game of Rugby, but only at home because the sport at school is “segregated.”

She also talked about young Prince George, who is 12 now. She said that he’s getting stronger, so “if we play at home, I do not want to get tackled by George! But, up to a certain age I think it’s great.”

Even Prince Louis plays “touch rugby” these days and he thoroughly enjoys the sport as well.

Gifting The Princess

The team called England’s Red Roses arrived at the reception which was hosted at “Windsor Castle.” Notably, the celebration was for last year’s win at the “Rugby World Cup” tournament.

Sweetly, Zoe Stratford, the “Captain of the England Rugby team” gave Princess Catherine “a signed shirt.” No doubt, she and her daughter, Charlotte will treasure it for years to come. Meanwhile, the team proudly wore their medals that they’d won.

Women In Sport

It seems very is interesting that the princess hopes that one day, women in rugby will get better recognition. Prince William and Catherine are definitely a new age of royal family.

They don’t seem to like the old “heirs and spares” rules of the palace. And, recognition of women is important. So often, it’s the men in sports who get the TV coverage and large appearance fees.
