In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal duties, relocated to America, and lost their 24/7 taxpayer-funded police protection as a result.
Something must have changed between 2020, when they “fled” the UK on a so-called freedom flight, and 2026, when they returned to the UK to start a brand new chapter of their lives.
But, if you ask some royal experts, their return to the UK was not done in the spirit of genuineness. Instead, it was just a new ploy in their plans to have their security, and perhaps even their IP status, returned.
Royal Historian Accuses Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of Blackmailing RAVEC and the Home Office
According to a source close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the couple will be on a flight back to America the second their latest security bid falls through.
While Harry and Meghan haven’t exactly publicly shared this sentiment, many believe that it’s the feeling they must have behind closed doors.
If they do indeed feel that way, royal biographer Angela Levin believes that it’s “blackmail.” She also wishes the door won’t hit them on the way out when they do leave the UK.
“It’s blackmail, isn’t it? That’s what I think. If the two of them now, if you don’t give them exactly what they want, when they want, I think it’s a blackmail thing,” Levin told TalkTV’s Charlie Rowley. “If they do go back, I’d be delighted; they are real nuances and extremely unpleasant here (in the UK). Why should we pay them money for everything they’re doing? They’re not doing anything (for us).”
While Rowley believes Harry is entitled to security being the King’s son and all, Levin insists it shouldn’t be on the same level as the ruling monarch or the heir.
“Well, there’s levels of the people who look after people who need protection and he only wants the one that is the same that the king and the queen have and William and Katherine. It’s not given to anyone lower than that,” Levin explained, adding, “It’s not given to anyone lower than that. So, if he gets someone who’s coming lower than that, it’s absolutely fine. But he wants guns, and he wants the best possible protection.”
