Prince Harry Demands Millions Over ‘Decades of Illegal Spying’ by Daily Mail Publisher

Prince Harry’s case with Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) has concluded, and in the aftermath, we’re still reeling from the dramatic testimonies and cross-examination of the involved celebrities. But how much will they be walking away with at the end of the day?

We’re here to break it down for you.

Prince Harry’s Attorney Asks Court To Award “Substantial” Payment To the Claimants

This January, Prince Harry emotionally took the witness box to reveal how ANL, the publisher of both the Mail on Sunday and Daily Mail, made his and his wife’s lives a misery.

Needless to say, tears were shed as he recounted his moving tale of how the papers’ actions inspired his paranoia and general sense of unease.

For this reason, the attorney for Prince Harry and six other claimants, David Sherborne, have demanded “substantial” damages as the drawn out High Court civil trial wrapped up Tuesday, March 31.

“The court is invited to make a substantial award of damages, including aggravated damages, in respect of each of the (claimants) for misuse of their private information,” the claimants’ legal team said in the closing statement.

Concluding the trial, Justice Matthew Nicklin admitted that it would take some time for the court to come to a decision, with the written judgement to be released at a later date.

At present, this case represents Harry’s final case in his battle against the British press, for what he sees as years of harassment and torment. Harry believes that several British publications not only targeted him, but used illegal means to gather information about him.

In response, the representative for the Newspapers, Antony White KC, denied all the accusations, insisting that the journalists working for the papers employed “ordinary, legitimate journalism” for their information gathering.

“Ordinary, legitimate journalism… is usually more likely than phone hacking, or phone tapping, or other forms of unlawful information gathering,” White said.

Per the judge, Sherborne’s job is “to demonstrate that there has been a wrong.”
