Guess what? Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are back in the news rotation, and this time, it’s got less to do with their numerous business fallouts, and more to do with how they’re generally perceived by their own neighbors.
I would say it was more or less a win for the little people when Harry and Meghan abandoned their lush life as royals and soon scooped up a $14 million property.
The neighborhood is said to be both scenic and idyllic, and packed with the who’s who of Hollywood. I’m talking maybe Oprah Winfrey on your right, and Katy Perry on your left. The catch is that the Sussexes are yet to fully integrate into their community, nearly six years in.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Were Branded “Takers” By Neighbors
One of the things that Sussex detractors find wrong about the couple is their purported unwillingness to reciprocate any kindness done to them.
Take the Royal Family for example; a multi-million dollar wedding for the two people and they say it was just a silly little show for the world.
Honestly, ever since the couple sat down on Oprah for their bombshell tell-all interview, they unwittingly created a yardstick for which they continue to be measured by.
This has naturally made some people wary of working with them, and if reports are to be believed, it’s also kept their very rich Montecito neighbors at a distance.
“They are avoiding them,” a source revealed, adding, “No one wants to be seen with them.”
Per another insider, this need for neighbors to distance themselves from the Sussexes isn’t something that sprung up overnight.
“It’s not hate,” another insider explained. “It’s just a growing awareness that they’re takers with zero self-awareness. Everyone’s exhausted by them.”
It would truly be a sad thing if this is really what’s happening, because it wouldn’t be right that Meghan Markle spent two seasons and a special of ‘With Love, Meghan’ showing us how to be good hosts, only to not even get to play host for her very own neighbors.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Bid For Privacy In Exclusive Montecito Neighborhood
When Harry and Meghan newly settled into the neighborhood back in 2020, their spokesperson was keen to emphasize the couple’s desire for privacy and a fresh start.
“They have settled into the quiet privacy of their community since their arrival and hope that this will be respected for their neighbors, as well as them for a family,” the spokesperson told Vogue.
So maybe it’s not much of wary distancing as it is respecting the couple’s bid for privacy?
